I am an exiled 6th-generation Londoner living in
Hampshire, England. I have worked as a
Town Planner in London and in the computer industry in the
Thames Valley. Currently contributing randomly, as and when time permits.
Interests
Local history, particularly the industrial history of
London and the
Port of London. As a geographer I take a wide definition of London, including Greater London, the surrounding area where the economy is closely linked to London, its port and airports, and the wide ring of towns grown large due to London leap-frogging the artificial constriction of the
greenbelt.
Computing. I've messed about with computers on and off since my first
Digi-Comp I in 1967, did a Postgrad Diploma in Computing in the 1980s and a Masters in
GIS in the 90s. Along the way owned
ZX80,
ZX81,
ZX Spectrum and numerous PCs from
CP/M onwards, and worked with
Vax,
ICL and
IBM mainframes,
Unix and
embedded systems.
Photography. I've been taking photos for about 40 years and got my first
digital SLR in 2005. Quite a few of my photos have been added to Wikipedia or Commons either by me or by others from the
Geograph project.
