Glowing Corn, was an American rock band from Eugene, Oregon. The band consisted of Jimmy Boyer and Kevin "Bingo" Richey, and were described as a "punk rock sensation" that performed between the years of 1994-97. [1] In 1994 the group released their limited edition vinyl EP. The EP was described as songs with remote vocals "as if sung through a dense black cloud", even dual voices "sung an octave apart" lending "a certain quirky affability." The instruments were described as playing "backwards guitar solos" and "highly syncopated drum pattern[s]". The reviewer of the EP finished by noting if the band could focus on making the vocals a priority by refining their delivery and tighter their ensemble presentation, "then their future would seem pretty bright." [2] The band appeared on the Northwest Post-Grunge compilation by Elemental Records and their track "Cynemologous" was described as a stand out track and favorite of reviewer Rob Fiend of the Gavin Report. [3]
Jimmy Boyer also played with Jeffery Fredericks' Clamtones, and after Glowing Corn formed the Freak Mountain Ramblers group with fellow bandmate Bingo. [4] Boyer died on January 21, 2016 at the age of 47. He was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2017. [5]
