Sauram Raj Tuladhar ( Nepali: सौरम राज तुलाधर, born 13 January 1988), also known by the initialism SRT, is a Nepali actor, director, and professional model who works predominantly in Nepali films, but is also active in the United States film and media. Known to be one of the Nepali Changemakers of 2021, Tuladhar is part of the most acclaimed, influential and popular actors of Nepalese cinema. He is known for his lead roles in Nepali-language films such as Zindagi Rocks (2015), Sadanga (2015), and Goodbye Kathmandu (2017). His most recent work, in which he starred as the lead actor, Ghar Auu - Come Home (2021) was the first Nepali-American film to win the "Best Short Film" title in Aasha International Film Festival as well as the "Audience Choice" award in Austin Lift Off Film Festival. He has also starred in more than 50 music videos, 30 TV commercials, and received various critically acclaimed national and international awards throughout his acting career.

After becoming an established actor in the Nepalese cinema, Tuladhar moved from Nepal to the United States of America in 2016 to further his education by completing his degrees in acting and film direction from New York Film Academy. He then signed to Callidus Agency, a Hollywood full-service SAG-AFTRA Franchised talent agency. Working in projects based in both Nepal and the United States of America, Tuladhar is passionate about global film making and taking Nepalese cinema worldwide.

Early Life And Education[edit]

Sauram Raj Tuladhar was born on January 13, 1988 in Biratnagar, Morang district in Eastern Nepal to Mahendra Raj Tuladhar and Ramala Regmi. He belongs to the Tuladhar community of the ethic group Newar in Nepal. His father, Mahendra Raj Tuladhar is a businessman and his mother, Ramala Regmi is the first woman printer to produce giclee photographic printing in Nepal.

Tuladhar grew up in Biratnagar until the age of eight, and moved to Kathmandu with his family due to his fathers business. Being the only child in a busy family, he spent most of his time alone in front of the TV and imagined playing characters by himself. His imagination led to his interest in film and media, and he started participating in theater/drama competitions in his elementary and intermediate schools. His performances of acting and dancing were greatly received by his teachers, fellow students, and the audience. When he expressed his desire to pursue a career in the arts, his parents were very supportive because they believed in his potential. However, they still wanted him to complete his higher education. Therefore, Tuladhar completed his bachelors in business administration from Kings College and his masters in business studies from Shanker Dev Campus. While completing his degrees, he started working in the Nepali film industry and gained a lot of recognition for his acting. After numerous projects in the Nepalese cinema, Tuladhar joined the New York Film Academy's acting and film direction program in 2016 to further develop his skills and hone his art.

Acting, Directing and Modeling Career[edit]

Sauram Raj Tuladhar's acting career began at the age of nine where he debuted as a child actor in the Nepali feature film, Aaja Ko Magh - Today's Demand in 1997. A year later, in 1998, Tuladhar was given the opportunity to be a child actor and dancer alongside Nepal's superstar of the time, Rajesh Hamal in the feature film, Dharma Sankat - Religion Crisis. After these films, he continued performing in theater gigs and drama competitions at his elementary and intermediate schools. These performances garnered a lot of attention and approval from the audience, which led to Tuladhar's decision to pursue film and media as his career.

Nine years later, in 2007, Tuladhar participated in the Mr. and Ms. University pageant where he won the titles Mr. Best Smile and Mr. Photogenic. His presence before the camera was noted by renowned directors, choreographers and photographers of Nepal which kickstarted his modeling career. He started with ramp shows, walking in prestigious shows such as the Nepal Fashion Week in 2009, 2010 and 2011 consecutively. He quickly transitioned into acting for music videos after receiving a lot of offers and successfully starred in over 50 of them. In 2010, Tuladhar made his Television debut as the lead actor in Katha Prem Ka (2010), a Nepali short film which was aired in Kantipur Television (KTV), the national television channel of Nepal. 2011, he starred as one of the leads in Bhusan Dahal's Hamro Team (2011) TV Show. After that show, he received a lot of movie offers but declined due to not liking the script of any. Finally in 2013, after working with Nikesh Khadka on a music video and receiving an offer for a film with him, Tuladhar decided to take on his first movie project believing in Khadka's direction skills.

In 2015, two years into the making of the film, Tuladhar made his debut as the lead actor in the feature film, Zindagi Rocks (2015). His role as 'Bob' was so popular that it got him his first nominee as the Best Debut Actor (Male) in many film awards including the national 2015 Nefta Film Awards. In 2015, shortly after the release of his first feature film, Tuladhar also acted in the lead role of a Nepalese gangster thriller, Sadanga (2015) which was known as possibly being "the finest gangster movie made in Nepal" at the time of its release. In 2017, Tuladhar was a supporting actor in Goodbye Kathmandu, a Nepalese feature film inspired by the ten-year Nepalese Civil War, that premiered in the Busan International Film Festival. After the success of his projects in Nepal, he ventured out to the United States of America to further his education and continued taking on projects in both Nepali and American media.

In 2019, he was part of his first project n the United States of America, a mockumentary called Number Neighbors (2019) based on the MTV show ' Catfish.' Number Neighbors (2019) won the most popular film award in the 48 Hours Film Festival of San Antonio, TX. In 2020, Tuladhar played the lead role in Ghar Auu - Come Home (2021). This Nepali-American short film, inspired by the struggles of Nepali international students living away from their parents in a foreign land, gained a lot of recognition and became the first Nepali-language film to be selected in multiple film festivals such as the Vancouver Independent Film Festival, AMFAA Film Festival, Aasha International Film Festival, Fillum International Storical and Short Film Festival (FISSF), Lift-Off Global Network, Austin Lift-Off Film Festival, Tokyo-Lift Off Film festival, Bitesize Film Festival, and South Asian Film Festival. It was also the first ever Nepali-language film to win the "Best Short Film" title in Aasha International Film Festival as well as the "Audience Choice" award in Austin Lift Off Film Festival.

Tuladhar continues to act in and direct several Nepali music videos, short films, and feature films. In 2022, Tuladhar is directing several music videos as well as a new American short film called "The Shadow" (2022) which highlights the impact one's mental health can have on their life.

Personal Life[edit]

Tuladhar keeps his personal life private, and prefers a discreet lifestyle. However, he has been vocal about battling depression and continues to advocate for mental health visibility and awareness in the Nepali society.

In addition to advocacy, acting, and filmmaking, Tuladhar enjoys long rides on his motorbike, watching a lot of movies, traveling to experience cultures, trying out different kinds of dishes, and sports such as horseback riding, cricket and basketball.
