The Minister of State for External Affairs (Videsh Rajya Mantrī) is the junior minister in the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the principal deputy to the Minister of External Affairs, who is the head of the Ministry of External Affairs. The position is currently held by V. Muraleedharan since 31 May 2019 and Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh since 7 July 2021.
The minister of state often discharges their duties on behalf of the Minister of External Affairs and act as their representative to several forums and meetings. Until the 1990s, the minister of state for external affairs was further assisted by the Deputy Minister for External Affairs. The position of the minister of state for external affairs was created for the first time in 1962 with the appointment of Lakshmi N. Menon to the position. Since then, the position has been regularly in use. Four of the ministers of state, namely, Dinesh Singh, Bali Ram Bhagat, Natwar Singh, and Salman Khurshid later went on to serve as the Cabinet Minister of External Affairs. Another minister of state, K. R. Narayanan later served as the 10th President of India from 1997 until 2002.

The Minister of State for External Affairs (Videsh Rajya Mantrī) is the junior minister in the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the principal deputy to the Minister of External Affairs, who is the head of the Ministry of External Affairs. The position is currently held by V. Muraleedharan since 31 May 2019 and Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh since 7 July 2021.
The minister of state often discharges their duties on behalf of the Minister of External Affairs and act as their representative to several forums and meetings. Until the 1990s, the minister of state for external affairs was further assisted by the Deputy Minister for External Affairs. The position of the minister of state for external affairs was created for the first time in 1962 with the appointment of Lakshmi N. Menon to the position. Since then, the position has been regularly in use. Four of the ministers of state, namely, Dinesh Singh, Bali Ram Bhagat, Natwar Singh, and Salman Khurshid later went on to serve as the Cabinet Minister of External Affairs. Another minister of state, K. R. Narayanan later served as the 10th President of India from 1997 until 2002.
