Sam Harris

Sam Harris is the lead vocalist and a guitarist of the alternative rock band the X Ambassadors. He officially founded the X Ambassadors in 2006, but it wasn't until 2010 that all of the members were able to fully commit their time to the band. [1] Harris grew up in upstate New York in the college town of Ithaca with his brother and bandmate Casey. [2] Sam's musical background started in kindergarten and continued to flourish as he played music with his brother and best friend, who both turned out to be his bandmates, throughout middle school and high school. [3] In an interview with Teen Vogue, after being asked about musical influences growing up, he stated, “. We listened to The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, D'Angelo, De La Soul, Method Man and Redman. I listened to a lot of protopunk stuff like Iggy and the Stooges and The Damned. I was also listening to Will Smith a lot for a while. I love Will Smith. I even bought Willennium—so funny.” [4] On top of vocals and being the back-up guitarist, Harris additionally plays the saxophone and drums for various album tracks when necessary. [5] Sam and his brother found a drummer for the band, Adam Levin when they went to the city for college. [6] The group's single "Jungle" has been used in various commercials, for example, Beats by Dr. Dre uses the song to promote Beats Headphones. [7]
