OpenCart is an open source e-commerce web application that was launched on February 3, 2009. [4] It was developed by Daniel Kerr (now OpenCart Ltd) along with co-developer 'Qphoria'. [5]
OpenCart is designed for the small to medium-sized online merchant. [6]
One example web store running on OpenCart is the British Red Cross online gift shop. [7]
Daniel Kerr, founder of OpenCart, formerly used osCommerce. He wrote OpenCart between 2005 and 2009 after the next major osCommerce release was delayed. [8] On December 18, 2006, the first public beta version was released. [9]
OpenCart has been adopted by over 184,000 online retailers [10]; mainly smaller e-commerce websites, although divisions of some larger organizations such as the British Red Cross also use it. [11]
In January 2010 a CSRF exploit for OpenCart 1.4.x allowing a malicious page to create an admin user was made public. [12] [13] This class of vulnerability was still present in OpenCart 1.5.5.1 (released Jan 2013). [14]
