The Pink House

The Pink House (not to be confused with the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a two-unit, eight-bedroom Victorian-style abode located on the 400 block of Oak Street between Buchanan and Laguna streets in the Lower Haight/"Fillmoe" neighborhood of San Francisco, California. In addition to the house itself, tenants claim to their names a small but cozy backyard, two useful basement spaces, and a shed known commonly as "The Clubhouse."

The Pink House is home to a host of young, creative people between the ages of 19 and 23 who dabble in pursuits including (but not limited to) music, writing, visual art, and dance. Currently only three tenants are students, though all have at one point been enrolled in institutions of higher learning (among them local colleges Academy of Art University, San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco, Cabrillo Junior College, and Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts). Housemates are generally cash-strapped, but strive to pay the bills through working a variety of retail jobs involving books, coffee, comedy, dogs, groceries, and pasta. Collectively the Pink House can boast one college degree, belonging to UC Santa Cruz graduate and in-house legal consultant John C, who, as a file clerk for a high-ranking law firm, holds the most lucrative occupation in the house. Tenants hail mostly from the state of California, namely Santa Cruz (three), Santa Rosa (two), Fremont, San Pedro, Santa Monica, and Sonora (one apiece); one tenant was born and raised a denizen of Austin, Texas, but has called San Francisco home for three years.

The Pink House as we know it was conceived when Chloe L., Dagney W., Kathryn C., and Tika H. migrated from various locales on the north side of the city to take up residency on Oak Street in March of 2004. In October of 2004, Mikey O. joined the fold, and in February of 2005 Chloe L. vacated her room, which was soon filled by Dave M. and Siobhan B., longtime friends of the original cast of characters. The Pink House scored a coup in August of 2005, when the neighboring tenants moved out; the collective arrival of Courtney D., Derek A., John C., and Melissa L. in the second unit truly ushered in a new era of drunken antics and other tomfoolery. The following month, Charlie Z., an occasional visitor to the city and acquaintance of certain housemates, wearily found his way to the Pink House couch and ultimately decided to stay indefinitely. The present sees the house in flux, with the exit of Dagney W. to a studio apartment roughly eight blocks away. Dagney W.'s room, the second-biggest in the house, was quickly snapped up by Tika H., who in turn handed over her second-floor room in the back of the house to former couch-dweller Charlie Z. Pink House extended family includes (but is not limited to): Amy B., Andrew J., Bo H., Brian D., Clark A., Dan M., Kai S., Kyles Goodmaster, May and Moody, Mike A., Mykle H., Nicks of the Children, Lampone. and Watter, Noah G., Orion E., Ryan M., Spike (last name unknown), Terrence F., and Thea C.
