Opticution is the term given to the damage done to biological specimens beyond viability that are specially manipulated via high local light intensities during the illumination of the specimens, such as Optical Twizzlers (OT) or Holographic Optical Trapping (HOT). Most of the time this is due to the high absorption coefficient of the sample at a particular wavelength.
