Started in 1995, the band Hatebreed out of Bridgeport and New Haven CT was destined to make an impact on the hardcore and metal scene. The band started with Jamey Jasta whose last name is really Shanahan. He got the name from a former band he was in called Jasta 14. The rest of the band included Chris Beattie, and Matt Mcintosh. Later the band included Sean Martin on guitar and Matt Byrne who have been in the band for the past 5 years or so. Hatebreed got its name from a Misfits song called “Hatebreeders”. They just took out the “ers”. With many practices, shows, and a lot of booking, Hatebreed signed to Smorgasboard Records and released Under the Knife in 1996. The following year they signed with Victory Records, who at the time was home to some of the biggest names in hardcore. They released Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire in 1997 on Victory Records and with little or no promotion sol over 200,000 copies. After constant touring and promoting, Hatebreed has pushed the limits as a hardcore band, gathering fans from all genres of heavy music. In the summer of 2002, the band released Perseverance on Universal Records. At this time to date, the band has toured from Europe to South America and played with bands such as, Agnostic Front, Madball, Hoods, Sworn Enemy, Motor Head, and played Ozzfest numerous times. Followed by The Rise of Brutality in 2003 Hatebreeds fan base was overwhelmingly huge.

Jasta has been the host for MTV 2’s “ Headbangers Ball”. He also runs Stillborn Records, which is home to Full Blown Chaos, Scurvy, Subzero, and many others. After a long wait and some personal problems in the band, Hatebreed's long awaited fifth album Supremacy is due in August 2006 on Roadrunner Records, and will include a new addition to the band, Frank Novinec of Ringworn and Terror. Jasta says the fith album will be "all-out onslaught of completely adrenaline-charged, in-your-face brutality."
