The Greenwood Military Aircraft Museum is a museum in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Canada. The mission of the Museum is to acquire and display artefacts which will illustrate the roles performed by military aviation in Atlantic Canada, particularly those originating from Greenwood. It is one of the finest military aviation museums in the Maritimes which pays tribute to the legacy of the RCAF Squadrons co located at 14 Wing Greenwood.

History

The Museum is a joint effort between 14 Wing Greenwood and the Museum Society. The concept started in 1992, opened in 1995 and the first full time curator was hired in 1998. The museum includes the Commemorative Garden, Air Park and the main Museum which opened in the current location in 2001. As of July 2012 the construction of a museum extension has been awarded which will eventually be the home for the restored Anson aircraft.

The aircraft on display reflect the history of the units that have called Greenwood, Nova Scotia home. The permanent displays encompass the early formation of the base in 1942 and proceed through the Lancaster, Neptune, Argus and Aurora eras. The Society was given the mandate of supporting the Museum and helping in the acquisition, preservation, protection, restoration, and display of artifacts with the associated Maritime Aviation history.

Exhibits

The majority of collection is located at the Air Park and within walking distance to the memorial gardens.

Recovery and Restoration

The Museum has an active Restoration Department and has returned many bent and twisted aircraft to full display condition. A team of volunteers complted a Avro Anson II. Current projects include the restoration of a Bristol Bolingbroke Mk IVT, Sagem CU 161 Sperwer UAV and a Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakota.
