Teabox (previously known as DarjeelingTeaXpress) is an ecommerce website founded by Kaushal Dugar in 2012, based out of Karnataka, India. With its fulfilment centre in Siliguri, West Bengal, Teabox delivers fresh, premium Indian teas to its customers, direct from source [1].

Early history

Kaushal founded DarjeelingTeaXpress [2] [3] in 2012 with an aim to sell fresh Darjeeling Tea, bootstrapped with less than $33,000. Having worked in Pramila International, a major tea exporter in India, he realized the potential market for fresh, premium Indian teas.So DarjeelingTeaXpress’s products quickly expanded to include teas from Assam, Niligiri and Nepal and became Teabox in October, 2013.

With under 20 employees and a customer base spanning 65 countries, Teabox raised seed funding of $1 million [4] [5] [6] from Accel Partners and Horizen Ventures in 2014.

Specialization

The tea sourced by Teabox are orthodox long leaves, instead of commercial tea dust manufactured by traditional CTC method. The tea is vacuum packed and sealed in opaque wraps, to avoid denaturation due to light and moisture. Tea is procured and shipped to customers within 48 hours of production, cutting short the traditional retail storage period of 3-6 months.

Products

Teabox offers a wide range of specialty teas in the categories of Black, White, Green and Oolong including many rare, exotic varieties. The website also offers single estate teas from various plantations in the country. The teas sold are also season (Spring, Summer) specific.
