Saurav Dutt is a British Indian author and novelist, film producer, graphic novel writer, and journalist. [1] [2]
Background
Dutt was born in Kolkata and was educated in London, England. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in Law from Kings College London University. [1] [2]
Career
Dutt has written a number of books, with sales proceeds from his novels such as Broken Sky and The Butterfly Room, going towards charities [3] including Amnesty International, Joyful Heart Foundation, Southall Black Sisters, Muhammad Ali Center and Refuge; charities dealing with domestic violence & abuse, LGBTI rights, discrimination against women and ethnic minorities, and survivors of brain injury and strokes. [4]
His earliest books were primarily non-fiction titles dealing with biographies of Hollywood film actors such as Mickey Rourke, Corey Haim and Roy Scheider. [2]
Recognition
Dutta's novel The Butterfly Room is referred to as a "Compelling Novel", which "challenges the attitudes of modern and traditional South Asian families" through addressing "the stigmas attached to gender, sex, discrimination and homophobia, which still plague many parts of the Indian subcontinent even today".
