Introduction:

Huanchen Bao is the winner of Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory along with his professor Weiqiang Wang for their fundamental contributions to the theory of quantum symmetric pairs. 

The Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory is the general theory of quantum symmetric pairs was formulated by Gail Letzter in the late 1990s and later extended by Stefan Kolb This award is based on two publications called "Canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs," and "A new approach to Kazhdan-Lusztig theory of type B via quantum symmetric pairs." In these works, Huanchen Bao and Weiqiang Wang fully extended the known theory and deepened it from the case of envelope algebra to symmetric quantum pairs.

Life:

Huanchen Bao obtained his B.S. in Mathematics at Sichuan University  in Chengdu, in the year of 2010, and his Ph as well. 

He was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study for the academic during 2016-2017, and a visitor of the Max-Planck institute of mathematics for several summers. He joined the Department of Mathematics at NUS since 2019. He was a postdoc at the University of Maryland, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics.

Career:

Huanchen Bao is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at the National University of Singapore. 

Bao is studying representation theory of Lie algebras, Lie superalgebras, quantum groups, and their connections to geometry and categorification. He obtained his Ph. D in Mathematics on 2015 at University of Virginia. During this process supervised by Wand, Bao solved the longstanding problem of computing simple characters in the BGG category of modules over a simple Lie superalgebra. After that, Bao and Wang developed a theory of canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs, generalizing Lusztig’s construction which made them the prize winners.
