MegaRamp

MegaRamp is a brand name for a commercial events company that produces live events around the world and has been based in Southern California since 2003. It works primarily with its trademarked MegaRamp configurations when doing events - MegaRamp, MegaRamp 2.0, MiniMegaRamp and MegaRamp Triples. It also produces and distributes merchandise such as skateboards, bikes and apparel with the MegaRamp name on it. The MegaRamp, MegaRamp 2.0, MiniMegaRamp and MegaRamp Triples is a registered trademark of MegaRamp Events LLC.

The inaugural MegaRamp event was held in the summer of 2004 for skateboarding and 2006 for BMX in Los Angeles, CA United States (US) at the Summer X Games ^[1] where it is called Big Air. The MegaRamp events are held annually in US, South Africa for the Maloof Money Cup, MegaRampa Rio South America, Chile MegaRamp ProGames, and Europe for the Freestyle.ch.Participants compete to win prize money. The "MegaRamp" itself is constructed of metal scaffold with a wood surface and topped with skatelite

HISTORY

in 2002, Professional skateboarder Danny Way ^[2] competed in the The King of Skate competition and won using a ramp with an oversized roll in, huge gap and massive quarter pipe. Shortly thereafter, a ramp that was much larger and similarly configured was constructed at Point X Camp in Temecula, CA. The ramp was unveiled in the DC Video in 2003 in which Danny Way set a double world record (longest jump/highest air on a skateboard) The DC skate video. In the video, Danny referred to the ramp as the "MegaRamp" and formed the company MegaRamp Events LLC shortly thereafter.

In 2004, Danny Way along with MegaRamp Events LLC brought his MegaRamp to the X Games and held the first competition called "Big Air" at X Games XIV in Los Angeles, CA. MegaRamp Events LLC has been involved in producing this event for X Games each year since it was introduced.

In 2005, Danny Way along with MegaRamp Events LLC, DC Shoes and Quiksilver set up a MegaRamp ....... Great Wall of China ^[3] and became the first person to jump the wall without the help of a motor vehicle and land successfully. Not only that, today Danny Way pulled off the jump o the Great Wall of China five times in front of a crowd of Chinese dignitaries and officials, along with his family and friends and thousands of locals.

The youngest skateboarder to attempt The MegaRamp run was Evan Doherty. He completed it unharmed at age 9 in 2012.

In New York City, June 12, 2008, Kevin Robinson broke the Freestyle Kevin Robinson ^[4] BMX air world record setting the new benchmark height at 8.1m (27ft) on a roll-in/quarter pipe MegaRamp setup.

Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins ^[5] was the first and is still, the only female to skate The MegaRamp in 2004.

Danny Way holds several world records in skateboarding. In the DC Video, Danny Way breaks the records for longest jump longest jump and highest air off of a ramp. Then, in the 2004 X Games, at MegaRamp Big Air Competition, Danny Way broke his own record for distance and set the current record of 79 feet. The height record is 23.5 feet. In 2005, Danny Way used a similar ramp again to jump The Great Wall Of China ^[6] and became the first person to jump the wall without the help of a motor vehicle and land successfully. STRUCTURE

The most common MegaRamp setup uses a sequence of three sections; a roll-in, a gap jump, and Vert quarter-pipe. The roll-in section consists of a single or multiple roll-ins that drop from 27m (90ft). The purpose of the roll-in is for the athletes to be able to gain the speed needed to tackle the other sections of the ramp. The second section can be a gap jump, or a quarter pipe. Gap jumps range in distance from 15.2m (50ft) to 21m (70ft) between the launch and landing sections. The athletes clear the distance between the launch and landing sections by sailing through the air above the gap, and onto a landing section, which is sloped to decrease the landing impact. The third section is almost invariably a quarter pipe. The quarter pipes can be 5.4m (18ft) to 7.6m (25ft) in height and serve as either a speed break, or as another launch point from which the athlete glides vertically into the air off the top lip of the ramp, before landing on the quarter pipe transition again. There are two permanent structures; one that resides in Vista, California in the backyard of Skateboarding pro, Bob Burnquist ^[7] and the second, is in Tehachapi, California at Training facility Woodward West.
