Český rozhlas Olomouc is a regional public radio station owned by Český rozhlas (Czech Radio), operating in Olomouc and broadcasting for the Olomouc Region. Czech Radio broadcasts from Olomouc since 1949; a separate station was founded in 1956. Since 2013, the station's director is Josef Podstata.
The station broadcasts 24/7. From 05:00 am to 07:00 pm, the station broadcasts its own programs; the nighttime broadcasting (and several windows in the daytime) is served by nation-wide programs by Český rozhlas Region station. As of the first quarter of 2023, the station had 43,000 daily listeners and had became the fastest-growing regional station operated by the Czech Radio. [1]
First attempts to start a regional station in Olomouc date to the 1920s. On January 22, 1936, Olomouc's city council asked that a regional radio station is started in the city, but the request was rejected on March 10 of the same year, stating that a single studio in Prague is sufficient. [2]
The studio started broadcasting on January 09, 1949. Until October 1956 it was administratively directed from Brno, but it had its own air time and ability to broadcast nation-wide.
