The 108 Stars of Destiny in the Suikoden series is based on the classical Chinese novel Water Margin by Shi Nai'an and Luo Guanzhong. The novel's concept of the 108 Stars of Destiny then became a defining feature of the video game series and has been featured in every main Suikoden game since.

In each main Suikoden game (excluding the Suikogaiden games and Suikoden Tactics), there are 108 recruitable characters. While recruiting all of the Stars of Destiny is not a requirement to finishing the game, recruiting all of them gives certain bonuses that affect the story of the game.

The leader of the Stars of Destiny

The leader of the Stars of Destiny in each installment is traditionally the Tenkai Star, with the exception of Suikoden III. In each of these games, the player may input a name of their own choice for these characters. Suikoden III has three possible leaders, with the Tenkai Star being Thomas, the master of the castle the Stars rally. In certain media adaptations of the Suikoden series, the protagonists are usually given a name by the authors of each adaptation.

  • The protagonist of the original Suikoden is named Tir McDohl (ティル・マクドール, Tiru Makudŏru) in the Drama CD adaptation and in the novelization by Shinjiro Hori and Louie (リューイ) in the manga adaptation. He is addressed only by his surname, McDohl, in the games.
  • The protagonist of Suikoden II is named Riou (リオウ) in the Drama CD adaptation and in the novelization by Shinjiro Hori and Tao (タオ) in the manga adaptation.
  • The protagonist of Suikoden IV is named Lazlo (ラズロ, Razuro) in the novelization by Mie Takase.
  • The protagonist of Suikoden V is named Freyjadour (フレイアドゥール, Fureiadoūru) in the novelization by Shinjiro Hori, Ardil (アーディル, Ādiru) in the manga adaptation, and Faroush (ファルーシュ, Farūshu, a portmanteau of his parents' names) in a promotional save file released in Japan.

The Bonus for Recruiting All 108 Stars of Destiny

In each of the games, recruiting all 108 Stars of Destiny has positive effects on the ending of the game which allows for the following certain abilities to be used in the story. Evidently, there is something special about the 108 Stars of Destiny, as their gathering brings forth a miracle strong enough to change the course of destiny (a recurring theme in the Suikoden series).

  • In Suikoden, using the combined will of the other 107 Stars of Destiny, Leknaat revives Gremio, Tir McDohl's best friend and bodyguard, after he is killed earlier in the game.
  • In Suikoden II, the combined will of the 108 Stars of Destiny unlocks the fourth spell of the Bright Shield Rune, the Forgiver Sign. This will allow the Rune of Beginning to heal Jowy Atriedes, saving him from death. Nanami, who was thought dead, will also reveal herself to be alive if all 108 Stars are found.
  • In Suikoden III, gathering all the Stars unlocks the antagonists' point of view and their attempt to change the course of destiny.
  • In Suikoden IV, it is by their power that the Rune of Punishment ended its atonement phase and moved into its forgiveness phase.
  • In Suikoden V, the will of the 108 Stars allows the Sun Rune to change from destructive to nurturing and brings Lyon back from death.
  • In Suikoden Tierkreis usually referred to as the 'Starbearers' (though called the 108 Stars of Destiny towards the end of the game). Finding all 108 Stars unlocks an extra ending cutscene.

Jowy Atreides was born in IS 444 into the wealthy Atriedes Clan of Highland. However, there was a distinct lack of love and caring in his family, so Jowy tended to care little for them. He was much closer to two friends from his boyhood: two kids adopted by an old hero named Genkaku. The children were Riou and Nanami. Riou and Jowy were the best of friends and were inseparable. As kids, they did everything together: Kept secrets, harbored a crush for the beautiful Jillia, they defended each other's honor, and more. Eventually, the two boys decided to join the Highland Youth Brigade together.

In IS 460, Jowy and Riou witnessed at Tenzan Pass the massacre of the Youth Brigade by Prince Luca Blight, though it was passed off as an attack by the City-State of Jowston in order to whip the people of Highland into a war frenzy. Both boys were found out by Rowd, the captain of the Youth Brigade, and are ordered to death. Riou and Jowy jump into a river to escape.

Jowy was rescued by child named Pilika and her parents, Marx and Joanna. Jowy rested to recover his strength, but when he heard Riou was held captive by Flik and Viktor, mercenaries of the City-State, he breaks Riou out of jail.

The boys were able to return to Kyaro thanks to the aid of a traveling circus troupe, but they are both caught by Captain Rowd when they go to get Nanami.

The boys were sentenced to death, but before they are sent to the scaffold, Jowy speaks to Jillia, at how Highland betrayed him, and not the other way around.

Flik and Viktor came to the rescue. The trio joined with them and they went back to the City-State.

Jowy decides to introduce Pilika to Riou, and both boys are welcomed with open arms. Pilika informs Jowy that she went to Muse and saw a great gift for her father, and asks Jowy if he could walk to Muse and get it for her if she gave him the money. While Jowy is gone, however, Pilika's hometown of Toto Village is burned and pillaged. Pilika is the only survivor.

Jowy meets Apple, a strategist, and takes her to Viktor, where they decide they need to fight. Viktor gives Jowy and Riou the job to repair Fire Spears, old weapons made by the dwarves. Riou and Jowy find a man named Tsai who can fix them, but during this time, Ryube Village, another small town, is ransacked.

Jowy decides he wants to fight, and he, Riou, and Nanami join Viktor in the battle. But Viktor's plan fails and they must all retreat to the capital of the City-State, Muse.

While going through to Toto Village, Pilika enters a shrine that her father used to take care of. Jowy examines the writing and is taken to a place where he relives his happy days with Riou. Riou is also with him, and the two boys are granted the power of the two pieces of the Rune of Beginning. Jowy receives the Black Sword Rune, which grants him powerful offensive magic.

Once in Muse, Jowy tells Riou he wants to fight for Pilika's sake, and volunteers to spy on Highland. Riou goes with him. Jowy finds out the information, but spots Rowd. They hide in Jillia's tent, where the Princess treats them to tea. However, even with Jillia's plan to stall Rowd, the boys are eventually caught. Jowy uses his Black Sword Rune to stall the Highlanders while Riou goes to escort Nanami from the woods where she is hiding.

Jowy is caught and meets Luca Blight. Although he hates the carnage the evil man causes, he admires the fact that Luca is strong. He accepts an offer to assassinate Lady Annabelle, Mayor of Muse. Jowy is then released back to the Highland camp, and finds out that Riou and Nanami waited outside of the gates of Muse for him.

Jowy watches the Jowston Hill meeting, and is appalled by the fact that the City-State mayors constantly squabble. He doesn't believe the State can manage Highland if they conquer it. After the meeting, Jowy leaves and assassinates Annabelle as ordered. As he does the deed, Riou and Nanami enter, and cannot believe Jowy did this. They are discovered by Jess kneeling at Annabelle's body and Jess accuses them of the assassination. Jowy opens the gates of Muse for the Highland army and flees to Highland.

General Jowy Atreides
General Jowy Atreides

Jowy is made a general and given prestige by Luca Blight. After the death of Solon Jhee, Jowy is made his replacement, and volunteers to assault Greenhill. Jowy manages this with only 5000 men and Muse's prisoners of war, despite the fact that Greenhill had about double that amount of soldiers. However, he doesn't manage to capture Teresa Wisemail, the mayor of Greenhill and She goes into hiding.

While Jowy is in Greenhill, he comes across Riou and Nanami, now members of the Dunan Army, made up of the City-State officials. Jowy allows Riou to go with Teresa. When asked why he does the things he does, following Highland and Luca Blight, Jowy replies that he must, although he won't allow Luca to have his way with the City-State. Seed and Culgan, two high-ranking generals in the Highland Army, believe that Jowy can lead Highland to a better future then the one Luca Blight is planning, and decide to help him.

Because of Jowy's success in Greenhill, Luca offers him a reward. Jowy says that he wants Jillia as his bride. He later informs Luca that doing this will allow Prince Luca to become King.

Jillia accepts the marriage, and Jowy is sworn in as a member of the Blight family. Jowy adds drops of his blood to wine and gives it to King Agares, a symbolic representation of Jowy adding his lifeblood to Highland. However, Jowy poisoned his blood, so that when Agares drank it, he would die. Luca believes the plan ingenious, since his paranoid father never takes a sip of water without having it tasted first.

With his throne secure, Luca plans to use a True Rune known as the Beast Rune to summon a large wolf-like monster and eradicate the City-State. Jowy has other plans.

Jowy then plots the death of Luca, and with Leon Silverberg, he manages to engineer it. By informing Riou of Luca's movements, it allows Shu, the strategist of the Dunan Army, to plan a counterstrategy and kill Luca.

Because Jillia is now blood heir, Jowy is now King of Highland. However, rather than make peace with Riou, Jowy demands Riou surrender, having Leon create a trap in Muse. He wishes to create a powerful country, born of force and wielding force, and the State cannot do this. However, Riou refuses to back down, and their war continues. He nearly gets Riou to surrender, but Shu anticipates this, and uses Pilika to prevent it. Riou manages to escape.

Jowy manages to capture Matilda, but loses his occupied territories quickly. When Riou takes Greenhill back, Jowy meets him face-to-face. Both men don't want to fight the other, but they have to. For one, the two halves of the Rune of Beginning always fight each other, and two, if either of them backed down, it would betray the faith of the people who believed in them.

During Riou's Matilda campaign, Jowy suspects that Riou is up to something, and hides in the castle, revealing himself to Riou and Nanami. They parley, but are interrupted by Gorudo, who wants to kill both Riou and Jowy and take all the land as his own. However, Nanami deflects the arrows, but is critically injured. In grief, Jowy kills Gorudo with Riou and orders his troops to abandon Matilda.

With Matilda gone, Jowy's forces withdraw from Muse and back into Highland. Jowy bolsters the morale of his army by pretending to sacrifice Jillia to the Beast Rune. But the Highland forces still fall. Seed and Culgan are killed. Jillia and Pilika are sent by Jowy to Harmonia to have a new life, and Jowy himself abandons L'Renouille Palace.

Jowy returns to Tenzan Pass one last time, and Riou meets with him there. This was where their journey began, where the two jumped into the river. Jowy decides that the two of them must fight, and one must kill the other, but Riou won't fight. Jowy doesn't understand, but then he collapses from exhaustion.

Luca Blight had planned to use the Beast Rune, and, to seal away the power, Jowy used his Black Sword Rune. However, the Black Sword Rune, without its counterpart, harms the wielder. Jowy wants to die for his sins, of murdering Annabelle and the others, but Riou forgives him. Miraculously, Riou's Bright Shield Rune heals Jowy's health. Leknaat explains that since Riou did not bend to the will of the rune and fight Jowy, he is worthy of its power.

The two boys leave together, and are stopped by Shu, who explains that Nanami was not killed in Matilda, that she only pretended it so Riou wouldn't worry about her. The two boys go back to meet her and travel the world together, having unified the land at last.

Luc (ルック, Rukku) is a character in the Genso Suikoden series of roleplaying games. He appears in Suikoden I, II, and III. He is a bearer of one of the 27 True Runes.

Luc was born in Solar Year 444. He is one of at least two clones created of High Priest Hikusaak with his sole purpose in life being to bear the True Wind Rune.

He was originally raised in Harmonia, but, due to an incident at the One Temple, he was rescued by Leknaat and lived on the Magician's Isle, which is northeast of Toran. During his time there, in Solar Year 455, he met Tir McDohl, who was running on an errand for the Scarlet Moon Empire, and enjoyed playing pranks on Ted. After Tir became the leader of the Liberation Army, he joined his army at Leknaat's urging.

File:Luc05.gif

Luc returned to Leknaat's service at the end of the war in Solar Year 457, but three years later, in Solar Year 460, Leknaat sent him again to fight in the Dunan Unification War. Although he had a bit of an interest in Tir's battle, he was quick to mention to Riou that he was only fighting because Leknaat ordered him to. During the Gate Rune War and the Dunan Unification War, Luc was the keeper of the Stone Tablet of Promise (the tablet of stars). During the Dunan Unification War, Luc explains to Riou how the Beast Rune works and what happened to the citizens of Muse. During the war, Luc becomes actively interested in attacking the Harmonian reinforcements granted to Highland, and their leader, Bishop Sasarai.

Sometime after the Dunan Unification War, Luc began receiving visions from the True Wind Rune he bore, and became bitter at his fate as Hikusaak's puppet. The visions Luc received were of a bleak and lifeless future, as the power of order overpowers the force of chaos, causing all life to stagnate. Luc resolves to change this future by destroying the True Wind Rune, realizing full well that his own death will result from this. He leaves Leknaat's service, after telling her how much he hates her. She is unable to stop him, as her Back Gate Rune is not strong enough, being only half of a True Rune.

To aid in his plan, Luc recruits the aid of a powerful magician, Sarah, whom he had rescued from Crystal Valley as a girl, and Albert Silverberg. Silverberg would further Luc's plan by summoning the Black Knight, Yuber.

File:Maskedluc.jpg
Luc as seen in Suikoden III, using a mask to conceal his identity.

For Luc's plan to work, he would need to gain the Five Elemental True Runes: The True Fire Rune, True Water Rune, True Lightning Rune, the True Earth Rune, and True Wind Rune, which he possessed already. To get these runes, Luc disguises himself with a mask and, with aid from Albert, pulls a lot of strings to become a bishop. Luc's timing was impeccable, as a fifty-year truce between the Grassland and Harmonia was just about to end, and the Grassland is the location of the Flame Champion, the bearer of the True Fire Rune.

While the Harmonian Army, led by Sasarai, begins the assault on Grasslands, Luc travels with Sarah, Yuber, and Albert Silverberg to the Grasslands to get the True Runes for himself. Luc's first plan is to create strife between the Zexen Federation and the Grassland. To accomplish this, Luc travels to the Great Hollow, and has Sarah create the illusion of Chris Lightfellow of the Zexen Knights attacking. While Shiba and Geddoe's mercenary troupe deal with her, Yuber secretly sneaks inside of the Hollow and assassinates Chief Zepon.

Afterwards, Luc travels to the Karaya Clan and has Sarah cast a spell creating a wall of anger. Anyone who entered the back of the village would see illusions that would enrage them, and make them succumb to uncontrollable fury. This happened to Borus, who massacred the Karayans until defeated by Geddoe.

Luc then searched for the True Fire Rune, and decided to check Le Buque for the Altar of the Mantor Trainers, which was once the altar of the Flame Champion. However, the altar turned out to be a fake the Flame Champion created to cover his tracks. Luc was then stopped by Geddoe and his troupe, where they learn the Masked Bishop has his own plans, and that he bears the True Wind Rune.

Luc then decides to search the Alma Kinan Clan for the True Water Rune, where he runs into Chris. However, Chris defends Yun's sacrifice long enough so that Luc can't obtain it.

Luc then learns of the Flame Champion's Hideaway, sensing the energy Sana used to open to seal to the True Fire Rune. Luc attempts to take the Rune, but the spirit of the Flame Champion blocks the attempt.

Unable to obtain the runes himself, Luc decides to join with Sasarai and the regular Harmonian Army and conquer the Grassland, obtaining the runes later. The attempts are successful until the Flame Champion unites the soldiers of Zexen and Grassland in the Battle of Brass Castle.

Luc then pursues Jimba, the bearer of the True Water Rune, and attacks him. Jimba is delivered a mortal wound, but manages to destroy Luc's mask, no longer allowing him to hide his face, and his exact likeness to Bishop Sasarai. Luc is about to take the rune, but is stopped by Chris, who takes the True Water Rune.

Rather than waste time on Grassland, Luc returns to Crystal Valley and attacks Sasarai to take the True Earth Rune. Luc distracts Sasarai by telling him the truth of his birth, and manages to remove the rune from his brother.

With two True Runes, Luc is confident enough in his position to wrest the runes from Grassland. Luc sets a trap in Le Buque and uses Franz to call on the Fire Bringer to help. Geddoe is the one who answers the call, taking Ace, Queen, Joker, Jacques, and Aila with him to rescue the citizens. Once the trap is sprung, Luc attacks. Geddoe and his troupe are too strong for Luc normally, but Sarah taps into the power of the True Earth Rune and defeats Geddoe, taking the True Lightning Rune from him. Luc leaves Geddoe and his crew to die with a nearly endless horde of monsters.

After this, Sarah decides to set a trap for Chris by creating an illusion. Appearing as Yumi, a girl from the Alma Kinan Clan, she tells a false story to Chris about how the Water Seal in Alma Kinan has been acting strangely, and that she wants Chris to help fix it by using the True Water Rune. Chris takes Borus with her, but deep in the Kuput Forest, Sarah reveals herself. She distracts Borus by making him recall the people he massacred in Karaya, and then uses the True Earth Rune on Chris to subdue her and steal her True Water Rune.

While Sarah is doing this, Luc summons monsters to attack Brass Castle to draw out Hugo, the bearer of the True Fire Rune. Wave after wave of monsters weaken Hugo, and eventually, Luc appears, using the power of the True Lightning Rune and True Wind Rune to overpower Hugo and take the True Fire Rune. With all the runes in his possession, Luc proceeds to leave, leaving Yuber behind to take out Hugo.

However, Hugo) escapes with the intervention of Chris and the Alma Kinan army; Geddoe, his troupe, and Le Buque; and finally, by Sasarai, who joins the Fire Bringer to stop Luc.

Luc places the runes of True Fire, True Water, True Lightning, and True Earth into receptacles built into a Sindar Ritual Site near the Great Hollow. Expecting the Fire Bringer to reclaim the Runes, he sends Yuber to guard the True Lightning Rune, Sarah to guard the True Water Rune, Albert Silverberg to guard the True Fire Rune, and Luc himself guards the True Earth Rune.

The energy of the five True Runes collects into the ruin, and Luc prepares to meet his end. However, the Fire Bringer intervene before the ritual can be finished. Geddoe and his crew crush Yuber, Chris takes her knights to defeat Sarah, Hugo and his mentor Sergeant Joe take the True Fire Rune after Albert Silverberg leaves it for them. Sasarai attempts to get the True Earth Rune back, but cannot best Luc in battle. Thomas and Cecile defend Sasarai though, and eventually, Luc just stops fighting and leaves. Sasarai is confused by these actions, because he'll get his True Rune back, but Luc responds to that, although he hates Sasarai more than anyone else, Sasarai is the only person who can understand just who Luc really is.

Luc meets Hugo, Chris, and Geddoe in the center of the Sindar Ruin. Using the gathered power in the ruins, he calls forth the incarnation of the True Wind Rune along with 'phantoms' of the other elemental runes to do battle. However, in the end, the Fire Bringer would defeat the beast, leaving Luc to his fate.

Because Luc has used so much power from the True Wind Rune, he lies dying. Albert Silverburg has fled and Yuber disappeared, his contract fulfilled from his view; the plans to destroy the Rune are in ruins. But Sarah comes to Luc and tells him that she loves him. She was born with incredible magical power and was used as a pawn by Harmonia, never experiencing the love she wanted. Luc rescued her, and she loved him for it. She would follow Luc's plans forever because of this. Luc asks Sarah what if he, just like everyone else, just wanted her power. Sarah responds that it was okay because he rescued her; she wouldn't have minded, as long as she could be beside him. Luc then thanks Sarah. Her love has redeemed him, and he finally believes himself a human and having a soul. They die with each other as the ruins collapse upon them.

After death, the souls of Luc and Sarah go to Leknaat, where the Seeress tells Luc she forgives him and blesses him.

Luca Blight is a main antagonist of the PlayStation role-playing game Suikoden II. In contrast to the ambiguous nature of its other enemies, the aptly-named Blight is unredeemably vile.

Overview

Born to King Agares and Sara Blight of the Kingdom of Highland, brother to Princess Jillia, Prince Luca's early life of luxury was shattered when the caravan he and his parents were traveling in was ambushed by bandits. Luca and his mother were captured while Agares fled. Luca was forced to watch as the bandits raped his mother, until the intervention of the Highland General, Han Cunningham. Since then, Luca harbored a great hatred towards the City State of Jowston, after learning that it was them who hired the bandits, and towards his father for fleeing and leaving him and Sarah behind. His sister Jillia was conceived in the rape. For this reason Luca is often angry with her, but he also loves her because of her resemblance to their mother.

26 years old and an unparalleled swordsman at the time of the game's events, Luca Blight is a man consumed. He finds great pleasure in killing and torturing anyone remotely involved with the City-States. Though he doesn't enjoy wasting his own men's lives as much, he has no qualms about sacrificing some to achieve greater ends. His blood lust has earned him a reputation as the Mad Prince, which is a misnomer as he's fully coherent and grounded in reality - although a reality where he is the only being with any value.

Becoming the head of the Highland Military, Luca starts a war with the neighboring states by murdering a band of children, then framing the City-States. After capturing Jowston's capital, Muse, Luca has the Beast Rune - one of the 27 True Runes that inhabit the world - feed on the souls of the people of Muse, allowing the Beast Rune to awaken.

After this, Luca and Jowy Atreides (at that point known as Jowy Blight) poison and murder King Agares, making Luca himself King. However, his position is short lived as he is ambushed by the main character's army after attempting a night raid on the Dunan Unification Army, and is killed in battle. Jowy and his strategist Leon Silverberg help the Dunan army by alerting them to the ambush, allowing the Dunan army to get the drop on Luca. Both Jowy and Leon firmly support Highland, but know that Luca's rage would eventually lead to the downfall of Highland.

Riou is the main protagonist in Konami's role playing game Suikoden II. He also makes cameo appearances in Suikogaiden Vol 1 and Suikogaiden Vol 2. Riou was a soldier of the Highland Army's Unicorn Youth Brigade but he later becomes the Commander-in-Chief of the Dunan Unification Army.

Biography

Riou was originally a war orphan. Along with his adopted-sister, Nanami, they were taken in by the old hero, Genkaku. Riou and Nanami grew up in the small Highland town, Kyaro. There Riou was picked on by the other kids because he was Genkaku's son. He eventually met Jowy Atreides, another boy who was a victim of the ruthless bullies. Nanami would eventually come to their rescue and save them.

The three friends would often train under Genkaku and become great fighters. Riou and Jowy would eventually join the Unicorn Youth Brigade after the death of Genkaku. Fortunately, they would not have to go to war thanks to Highland and the City-State of Jowston signing a peace treaty. Unfortunately, Highland's own forces ambushed the youth brigade, slaughtering all the young soldiers trying to frame the traitorous act on Jowston. Riou and Jowy managed to escape by jumping off a cliff and streaming down the river.

Life only got harder down the road for Riou, having becoming separated from Jowy, he was found by a band of mercenaries under the command of Viktor. Riou was taken in as a guest and allowed to stay in a cell and do daily chores. One night, Jowy appeared and rescued him and together they tried to escape but were caught by Flik and Viktor.

Not learning their lesson, Riou and Jowy attempted to flee again and succeeded. They retreated to nearby village, Ryube where they met traveling performers who traveled with them to Kyaro. Riou reunited with his sister, Nanami there but the reunion was shortlived as Riou's former captain, Rowd appeared on the scene to arrest Riou.

Riou and Jowy were both tortured and placed in a cell but thanks to the efforts of Flik and Viktor they were saved. They went to rescue Nanami as well, who has escaped all by herself. They then escaped Highland through the North Sparrow Pass and returned to Viktor's mercenary fortress where Viktor allowed them to stay and asked them to help recruit more mercenaries.

Riou, Jowy and Nanami go about recruiting a few mercenaries for Viktor. They eventually ended up in Toto Village, the place where Jowy had been after Riou and him had become separated. Jowy introduced Riou and Nanami to Pilika, the little girl who rescued him. Pilika secretly told Riou and Jowy that she wanted to buy a wooden amulet for her father's birthday and it can be found in the capital, Muse.

Riou and Jowy travelled to Muse and buy the amulet for Pilika, but when they returned, Toto had been burned down to the ground. Pilika managed to survive because she hid well. As she tried to explain to Jowy what had happened, a young woman called Apple arrived and asked Riou and Jowy to take her to Viktor's fortress.

Riou and Jowy escorted Apple back to Viktor's fortress and Apple explained to Viktor what happened and about Highland's plans. Viktor asked them to find Tsai who lived in the forest north of Ryube. Riou and Jowy brought Tsai back to Viktor, on the way, witnessing Luca Blight's insanity. Viktor allowed them to leave afterwards but Riou and Jowy decided to help against Highland. Flik agreed to let them help if Riou would manage to even wound him in a duel, Riou succeeds and was given his own unit.

After this, Riou ends up becoming the head of the City-States army and Leader. As Jowy became a well thought of soldier for Highland. They fought many horrible battles and Riou actually defeated Luca! But when he thought it was over Jowy married Jillia and so now he became the King of Highland. So now he and Jowy has to fight against one another.

But Riou decided to go back to Tenzan path where Jowy and Riou made a pact that if they got separated along the way they would both come back to that spot. Riou walked up only to see Jowy waiting there. Jowy and Riou end up having a duel to finally finish the war at Jowy's request and insistence, when the battle starts you have the option to refuse to attack Jowy or defeat him (which kills him). By not choosing to deplete his lifebar you spare Jowy and the battle ends with Jowy asking why do you not fight, after then Jowy's Rune proceeds to take his life away due to numerous usage. (If you have completed the goal of gaining Riou's last spell Forgivers Sign the ending changes from here.) Riou's Bright Shield Rune begins to heal Jowy, Leknaat appears and informs them that Jowy will live, she then tells them to go experience the world.

Jowy is reluctant to do so feeling guilt over all the people he has hurt to get this far but Leknaat tells him forthright that his sins won't disappear but she believes he can make the world a better place. Jowy with new fortitude decides that Leknaat maybe right and with your encouragement and agrees to travel the world with you. Upon leaving you find Shu who hoped that you would remain to lead the country but allows you to do as you wish, desiring that you'll return one day to lead the country. Nanami is then revealed to be alive, it is explained that she faked her death so Riou wouldn't worry about her anymore and concentrate on his duties.

All three visit Kyaro one last time before leaving on their journey.

Weapon

Riou was taught how to use a tonfa by his adopted father, Genkaku.

Star of DestinyTenkai

Born in the Scarlet Moon capital of Gregminster, Tir was the first and only heir of the McDohl household, son of Teo McDohl, considered the greatest of the Empire’s Six Great Generals. Because of his father’s highly demanding position and his mother passing away shortly after his birth, he spent most of his childhood in the care of Gremio, a soldier who had served under Teo and had been taken in to serve as his tutor and guardian, as well as another two of his father’s men, Cleo and Pahn, that also served as guardians. As per his father’s orders, he was instructed from a very early age by Kai in the usage of the Bo, an art in which he evidenced an enormous talent.

When Ted was mistaken for an orphan by Teo and brought into the McDohl estate, Tir became fast friends with him and succeeded in getting the solitary wanderer to finally open up his heart to other people. They soon formed a brotherly bond and Ted was formally taken into the household.

During the Succession War between Geil and Barbarossa Rugner, he was kidnapped and brought to the northern village of Sarady as an attempt to restrain his father’s services to Barbarossa, but was quickly rescued by Gremio and brought back to safety. At the age of fifteen he enlisted into the Imperial Army with the blessings of Emperor Barbarossa himself, and put under the lead of Commander Kraze of the Imperial Guard. His military career was short lived however, as he became involved in a number of questionable tasks under Kraze’s command that made him question the Empire’s current policies. When Ted was forced to use his Soul Eater Rune during one of his missions, Kraze relayed that information to the court magician Windy, who took Ted prisoner.

After his escape, Ted reluctantly entrusted Tir with the Soul Eater, apologizing for putting such a burden on him. Kraze intruded into their home following a lead from Pahn, retaking Ted as prisoner and branding Tir, Gremio and Cleo as traitors under Windy’s command. The trio managed to flee Gregmister with the aid of Viktor, a member of the Liberation Army that they came across in the city and found their way into the rebels’ headquarters.

Welcomed by Odessa Silverberg, the Liberation Army's leader, and remembering the injustices he witnessed during his missions, Tir became a member of the Liberation Army and earned Odessa’s respect, who saw him as a potential successor. After the Imperial Army attacked the rebels’ base taking advantage of the absence of a considerable portion of their forces, Odessa was assassinated and Viktor led the few survivors to seek the aid of her older brother, the renowned strategist Mathiu Silverberg. With his help, the Liberation Army settled into the abandoned Toran Castle and suggested that Tir become their new leader.

Tir led the Liberation Army through the two years of their campaign, forming alliances with numerous local leaders such as the prominent merchant Lepant, several non-human races such as the Elves, Kobolds and Dwarves, reunited with the remnant of the astray Liberation forces led by Flik that had been absent during Odessa’s murder, defeated the undead vampire Neclord and gained the aid of the Dragon Knights. However, the war caused great tragedies to his personal life, first losing Gremio due to a trap in Soniere Prison, being forced to battle and kill his own father in the battlefield and in a one-on-one duel and finally killing Ted, who was under Windy’s control. With each death, the Soul Eater absorbed the grief and suffering of Tir’s loved ones and grew in power.

Finally uniting the entire region and securing the help of the remaining Six Generals, the Liberation Army gained enough military power to go against the Imperial guard itself. Once the 108 Stars of Destiny were reunited, Leknaat conjured their power to resuscitate Gremio and the final confrontation began. After a successful battle, Tir fought and defeated Emperor Barbarossa and his Sovereign Rune, though Windy used the opportunity to try and force the Soul Eater to abandon his host and become hers. Unexpectedly, the Rune rejected Windy and summoned the strength it had drawn from Tir’s loved ones to protect his bearer.

With Windy and Barbarossa dead, Tir was expected to take the seat of President of the newly formed Toran Republic, but instead chose to pass on the position to Lepant and embarked in a journey with Gremio in order to safeguard the Soul Eater.

Three years later he met Riou during an incident within the Jowston-Toran border and agreed to cooperate with the Dunan Unification Army after a brief return to Toran. Being a True Rune Bearer, Tir hasn't aged since the moment he took possession of the Soul Eater. Aside from being seen having a brief talk with Kasumi after the war, there is no information of his current whereabouts.

Weapon

Tir's trademark weapon is the Bo staff.

  • Wolf Fang Staff (Level 1-5)
  • Dragon Fang Staff (Level 6-11)
  • Heaven Fang Staff (Level 12-16)

Trivia

  • Tir is not his canonical first name in the games, but the one used in the novelizations. It is generally used in fanon in order to disambiguate the character from the other nameless protagonists in the series.
  • In the novelizations, it is hinted that Tir became cynical as he grew older, turning dark, brooding, and willing to sacrifice anything to achieve an end. Though it is not confirmed as a whole, it can be theorized that his bearing of the weight of the cursed rune has long since affected his mind. Not to mention the novelizatons are not considered to be official canon
  • Tir and Kasumi’s relationship is a popular matter of speculation for many fans. During the games, she is always far too shy to reveal her feelings although she appears to keep in contact with him. One of the last scenes in Suikogaiden Vol. 2 shows both of them talking under a tree, with Tir talking about his childhood and Ted, which may suggest that they are at least close to each other.

Suikoden Recurring Characters (PAK GANERN!)

These are recurring characters whose first appearance was in Suikoden.

Apple

Apple (アップル, Appuru) is a strategist and historian who took part in the conflicts of each of the first three Suikoden games. She is a student of strategy under Mathiu Silverberg in Suikoden, she assists Shu as a fellow strategist in Suikoden II, and by Suikoden III she is an experienced historian with a student of her own, Caesar Silverberg.

Clive

Clive (クライブ, Kuraibu) is a Knight Class Gunner in the country of Harmonia's Howling Voice Guild. He appears in Suikoden, Suikoden II, and Genso Suikogaiden.

Flik

Flik (フリック, Furikku) is a swordsman known as the "Blue Lightning". In Suikoden I, Flik is one of the original members of the Toran Liberation Army and the lover of Odessa Silverberg. In Suikoden II, he and Viktor have formed a mercenary force for the Jowston City-State of Muse at the request of its mayor, Anabelle, and together they end up forming the Dunan Army. He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden.

Futch

Futch (フッチ, Fucchi) is a highly skilled Dragon Knight. In Suikoden, his dragon, Black, is attacked and killed by the Court Magician Windy. In Suikoden II, he rescues a baby white dragon at Mt. Rakutei and adopts it as his own, naming it Bright. He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden, and Bright and Futch are both characters in Suikoden III.

Hanzo

Hanzo (ハンゾウ, Hanzō) is the chief of the ninja village of Rokkaku. In Suikoden, after the sacking of Rokkaku by Teo McDohl's forces, Hanzo leads the survivors into a full alliance with the Toran Liberation Army. In Suikoden II, Hanzo orders Sasuke and Mondo to join the Dunan Unification Army.

The Hero

The Hero from the original Suikoden, named by the player in the game, is known as Tir McDohl (ティル・マクドール, Tiru Makudōru) in the novelization and Drama CD adaptation and Ryūi (リューイ) in the manga adaptation. If the player loads a Suikoden game save at the beginning of Suikoden II, the Hero from the first game will be in Banner Village, and after a short event will become available to join the player's party in Suikoden II, though he is not counted among the 108 Stars of Destiny. If the Suikoden game save had all 108 Stars of Destiny recruited, Gremio will also be present to accompany McDohl, though he will not be available for use in battle.

Hix

Hix (ヒックス, Hikkusu) is a warrior-in-training from the Warrior's Village. Though he does not like fighting, he does not hesitate to do so when his fiancée is in danger, and thus he works to save her from the vampire Neclord along with the player and Viktor. In Suikoden II, he and Tengaar become involved in the Dunan Unification War after the player 'lifts' a fake curse from Tengaar; she had faked her condition in order to test Hix. He also helps to aid Nash in Genso Suikogaiden.

It is tradition for the men of the Warrior's Village to name their weapons after who is most dear to them, and so Hix's blade is named 'Tengaar'.

Humphrey Mintz

Humphrey Mintz (ハンフリー・ミンツ, Hanfurī Mintsu) is one of the original members of the Toran Liberation Army in Suikoden. During the war, he is asked by Joshua Levenheit, an old acquaintance, to take care of Futch, and thus the two are found traveling together in both Suikoden II and Genso Suikogaiden.

Jeane

Jeane (ジーン, Jīn) is a mysterious runemistress who has appeared in each of the five main games of the Suikoden series. She also appears in Genso Suikogaiden and Suikoden Tactics. Very little has been revealed about her past or background in the games so far, and while the series has spanned over centuries in-game, she appears to not have aged. In Suikoden, Suikoden II, and Suikoden III, she is not playable in battle, but in IV and V, her Charm Rune sometimes causes enemies to protect her instead of attack.

Jeane's primary role in the Suikoden series has been to sell runes and to remove or equip them from party members. In Suikoden V, she was given a deeper role to play within the game; she appears to have met Zerase before, who seems to respect her considerable power as a runemistress. She can also force some runes onto a bearer that usually can only be possessed by a person whom the Rune itself chooses (the Twilight Rune, for example), but is unable to do so with the Sun Rune, however.

Kasumi

Kasumi (カスミ, Kasumi) is a young ninja. In Suikoden, the ninja hamlet of Rokkaku, her home, is destroyed by forces from the Scarlet Moon Empire, and in the commotion she manages to escape toward Toran Castle to request help from the Liberation Army. Believing her comrades to be dead, she becomes a member of the rebellion, serving as a spy, and at the end of the game she and the other survivors of the attack on Rokkaku work together to rebuild the village. In Suikoden II, either she or Valeria are chosen by the player to support the Dunan Army on President Lepant's orders. Kasumi also appears in Genso Suikogaiden.

Leknaat

Leknaat (レックナート, Rekkunāto) is a blind seeress who has appeared in every main Suikoden game. Also known as the Keeper of Balance, she is the bearer of the back half of the Gate Rune, a True Rune which has kept her alive for more than 387 years as of Suikoden III. She generally appears to the player to provide advice as to the nature of runes, fate, and the Stars of Destiny.

Leon Silverberg

Leon Silverberg (レオン・シルバーバーグ, Reon Shirubābāgu) is a military strategist. He appears in Suikoden as a Star of Destiny, aiding the Toran Liberation Army at the request of his nephew, Mathiu. In Suikoden II, he is an antagonist, having been approached by Jowy Atreides Blight to become a strategist for the Highland Army.

His grandsons, Albert and Caesar, would go on to play key roles as tactical advisors during the Second Fire Bringer War.

Lorelai

Lorelai (ローレライ, Rōrerai) is an investigator of the vanished Sindar civilization. In Suikoden V, she appears at the Ceras Lake Sindar Ruins, where she is defeated in a duel by the player, and joins his forces when his Dawn Rune proves useful for opening previously sealed ruins. In Suikoden, she is met by the player's party in Kouan, where she shortly thereafter decides to join his army, though she never mentions anything about the Sindar or her investigations. In Suikoden II, she joins the player's army after your HQ is level 3 or by having Killey in your party when you talk to her.

Luc

Luc (ルック, Rukku) is magician and the bearer of the True Wind Rune. He appears in Suikoden and Suikoden II as Leknaat's apprentice, joining the player's army in each game at her request and serving as Keeper of the Tablet of the Stars, upon which the names of the 108 Stars of Destiny are inscribed. In Suikoden III, he is revealed as a clone of High Priest Hikusaak of Harmonia and serves as the game's primary antagonist, instigating war between Harmonia and the Grasslands just as a fifty-year truce between the groups had ended.

Maximillian

Maximillian (マクシミリアン, Makushimirian) is the former leader of the Knights of Maximillian, which are disbanded by the Scarlet Moon Empire due to their anti-corruption stance. Despite this, Maximillian does his best to continue to fight evil along with his servant Sancho during Suikoden, and he also joins the player's army in Suikoden II.

His grandson, Fred Maximillian, appears in Suikoden III.

Meg

Meg (メグ, Megu) is a trickster who first appears in Suikoden, joining the player's army in order to be closer to her uncle, Juppo, and to learn the "lost art of gadgetry" from him. Some time between the end of Suikoden and the beginning of Suikoden II, Juppo disappears, leaving Meg with his robot, Gadget. Together, they join the player's army.

In Suikoden III, Gadget Z (a remodeled version of Gadget) appears, traveling with Belle, who is thought to be the daughter of Meg by an unknown father.

Neclord

Neclord (ネクロード, Nekurōdo) is a vampire who frequently abducts young maidens and forces them to marry him. He is in possession of the Moon Rune during the time period of Suikoden and Suikoden II, and is more than 400 years old.

In Suikoden, Neclord is defeated by the hero's party; however, it is revealed in Suikoden II that only a doppelganger of Neclord was killed when the real Neclord appears and begins to abduct young women again. Viktor, with the help of the Star Dragon Sword, the player character, and a vampire hunter named Kahn Marley, successfully forces Neclord to retreat from Northwindow. Later on in the game, Sierra Mikain joins the party to finally defeat Neclord and take back possession of the Moon Rune.

Pesmerga

Pesmerga (ペシュメルガ, Peshumeruga) is a mysterious Black Knight who chases after Yuber for undisclosed reasons. Much like Yuber, Pesmerga is not considered a human, and very little about his origins are known. He appears in both Suikoden and Suikoden II as a Star of Destiny.

Sheena

Sheena (シーナ, Shīna) is the son of Lepant and Eileen. An incorrigible flirt, he is constantly chasing after young women; as a result, his father recruits him into the Toran Liberation Army after finding him flirting with an inn maid in Suikoden. In Suikoden II, as the son of Lepant, he gives the player the opportunity to forge an alliance with the Toran Republic, and along with Nash, Humphrey, and Futch, he helps to rescue a girl named Jonah in Genso Suikogaiden.

Stallion

Stallion (スタリオン, Sutarion) is an elf from Toran who seeks "to become the fastest person alive." In both Suikoden and Suikoden II, he bears the Godspeed Rune which allows the player character to run through towns and/or on the map screen while he is in the party.

Tai Ho

Tai Ho (タイ・ホー, Tai Hō) is a fisherman and sworn brother to Yam Koo. After the hero of Suikoden wins a game of dice against him, Tai Ho agrees to transport him to Toran Castle. His appearance in Suikoden II follows a similar route, as the new hero also wins a game of dice in order for Tai Ho to agree to ferry him and his party across Lake Dunan. Later in the game, if the hero wins against him yet again, Tai Ho joins his army along with his sworn brother.

Ted

Ted (テッド, Teddo) is the player character's best friend in Suikoden. Ted also appears as part of a flashback in Genso Suikogaiden, and in Suikoden IV he is a playable character and one of the 108 Stars of Destiny. Because he bears the Rune of Life and Death, a True Rune, he is already 150 years old by Suikoden IV and more than 300 years old during the events of Suikoden.

In Suikoden, Ted is revealed to be the sole survivor of a village destroyed by Windy, Neclord, and Yuber, during which the Rune of Life and Death (also known as the Soul Eater due to its propensity to curse the bearer and those closest to him or her) was passed on to him by his grandfather; he has wandered the world alone ever since. During the events of Suikoden IV, Ted spends some time on the Fog Ship and decides to spend eternity there, relinquishing his True Rune to its captain, but when the ship comes into contact with the player character and the captain attempts to convince him to relinquish his Rune of Punishment, Ted helps to defeat the Fog Ship's captain and retakes the Soul Eater from him. He continues to help the player throughout the rest of the war with the Kooluk Empire, though he remains distant from the other Stars of Destiny, and vanishes when it is over.

Shortly before the events of Suikoden, Ted has managed to suppress the rune's curse, allowing him to make friends without fear, and so he is able to befriend the protagonist of the first Suikoden when Teo mistakes him for a war orphan and invites him into their home. He uses the Soul Eater as a last resort to protect the player's party from a monster, and is finally discovered by the Court Magician Windy, who attempts to take it from him. He suffers a mortal wound during his escape to the McDohl household, and once there, he passes the Soul Eater on to the Hero as he stays behind as a decoy for the forces Windy sent after him. In the end, Windy attempts to use Ted to get the Soul Eater away from the Hero, but instead, Ted commands the Soul Eater to take his own soul.

Templeton

Templeton (テンプルトン, Tempuruton) is a young cartographer. In Suikoden, he joins the player's army after the destruction of the Village of the Elves; he dislikes war because it makes him have to update his maps. In Suikoden II, he is found in the ruined village of Toto and provides the 'Suiko Map' to the player. He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden.

Tengaar

Tengaar (テンガアール, Tengaāru) is the daughter of the chief of the Warrior's Village and Hix's fiancée. As the chief's daughter, she is somewhat spoiled and nags Hix constantly to do things for her and to become a great warrior. She is kidnapped by Neclord in Suikoden, who intends to make her his bride; after being rescued she joins the player's army along with Hix. In Suikoden II, she fools Hix into thinking a unicorn has cursed her in order to test him. Once she is 'cured', she joins the player's army once more along with Hix.

Valeria

Valeria (バレリア, Bareria) is an avid swordmistress and former lieutenant in the Scarlet Moon Army. In Suikoden, Valeria defected when Kwanda Rosman, her commanding officer, began to burn the Elves' Forest with the Burning Mirror, and attempted to convince the Elves to stand up against him; however, she was instead captured and imprisoned by the Elves. In prison, she met the hero and decided to join him, eventually becoming a powerful force within the Liberation Army. She was named as one of the new Six Great Generals of the Toran Republic, and in her new capacity, the hero of Suikoden II may choose her or Kasumi to join him by order of President Lepant.

Viki

Viki (ビッキー, Bikkī) is a clumsy girl with a talent for magic and teleportation who appears in each of the five main Suikoden games and Genso Suikogaiden. She has a knack for accidentally warping near the protagonist of each Suikoden, and requests their aid and protection in exchange for her teleportation services. Like Jeane, Viki does not appear to have aged during the course of the game series, though it is not clear if it is because she bears a True Rune or else. Upon meeting the hero of Suikoden II she mentions that she had been eating during the celebratory feast in the Toran Republic when she sneezed and accidentally teleported herself. In Suikoden V Lorelei will mention that she had met Viki earlier and that Viki had recognized her and had been eager to help her escape a trap, but claims to have never met Lorelei before after they have joined the hero's army.

Viki bears a Blinking Rune, which allows her to warp people to any location that they have already been before. While other characters are capable of using Blinking Runes, only Viki has demonstrated the ability to use it for long-range and wide-scale teleportation. In Suikoden IV, she is even able to teleport entire fleets of warships over considerable distances. However, she has a strange tendency to unwillingly warp things, people, and even herself to random locations, as well as the fear of accidentally beheading those she teleports, explained in Suikoden V. In Genso Suikogaiden her home is depicted as a “magical land” with a surreal landscape located in an unknown region of the planet, filled with unexplainable phenomena in which space seems to twist over itself, with doors and windows floating in mid air and strange endless corridors; little else is known about Viki's past or where she came from.

A similar-looking character named Viki, usually referred to as Young Viki due to her younger appearance, also appears in Suikoden III as a Star of Destiny along with the elder. Young Viki's relationship with the older girl is unclear, however, and her behavior and mannerisms are far more mature than the older Viki's, as she lacks the clumsiness and obliviousness that characterizes her counterpart.

Viktor

Viktor (ビクトール, Bikutōru) appears in Suikoden as one of the original members of the Toran Liberation Army. Though rough and crude and not altogether trusted by his early companions, Viktor is responsible for recruiting the player into the Toran Liberation Army. He is one of the few survivors of Northwindow's destruction at the hands of Neclord, who turned his family into zombies, save his sister Daisy, who committed suicide to avoid becoming one of Neclord's brides.

After the events of Suikoden, Viktor makes a promise to Anabelle, mayor of Muse, and he works with Flik to form a mercenary group to aid the City-State in Suikoden II. His mercenaries become involved in the Dunan Unification War, offering their services to the player after the fall of Muse. During the war, Viktor is finally able to destroy Neclord with the aid of Sierra Mikain, Kahn Marley, and the Star Dragon Sword, a True Rune in sword form. He also appears in Genso Suikogaiden along with Flik as they go to help fight against Harmonia in the Higheast Rebellion.

Sometime before Suikoden III, Viktor ends up passing the Star Dragon Sword to Edge in order to help the young man defeat vampires attacking his village.

Vincent de Boule

Vincent de Boule (ヴァンサン・ド・ブール, Vansan do Būru) is a Scarlet Moon aristocrat. In Suikoden, he helps the player get into the Dragon Knights' Den. In Suikoden II, if the player brings Simone Verdricci to meet him in Radat, he joins the Dunan Army.

Yam Koo

Yam Koo (ヤム・クー, Yamu Kū) is a fisherman and sworn brother to Tai Ho. In both Suikoden and Suikoden II, he joins the player's army along with Tai Ho, he allows the player to access the fishing minigame.

Yuber

Yuber (ユーバー, Yūbā) is a mysterious Black Knight who frequently appears in the midst of conflicts. He openly states that he is not human, and other characters who have come into contact with him remark on his inhuman traits. He bears the Hachifusa Rune, a True Rune of unknown capabilities; while he has the power to summon powerful monsters, such as the Bone Dragon which appeared in Greenhill during the Dunan Unification Wars, it is unclear whether that power stems from the True Rune or some other source. He feels no affection for his employers and works only with them to cause chaos, as evidenced by his desertion of the Highland Kingdom when it becomes clear that they will lose. He harbors a deep hatred toward the True Runes and actively tries to destroy those who wield their power. Little else is known about Yuber or his origins save that he bears a connection to the Black Knight Pesmerga, who pursues Yuber throughout Suikoden and Suikoden II for unknown reasons.

In Suikoden III, Albert Silverberg summons Yuber in order to further his and Luc's plans. Yuber willingly agrees to help them, as Luc's plan will bring about mass chaos and death, both of which he is fond of. After being defeated by the bearer of the True Lightning Rune, however, he once again abandons his employers when their defeat is inevitable.

Characters with minor roles

As noted above, Suikoden II carried over a considerable number of characters from Suikoden. Alen, Antonio, Cleo, Eileen, Grenseal, Kage, Lepant, Lester, Liukan, Lotte, Marie, Pahn, Sarah, Tesla, and Varkas all make small cameo appearances in Suikoden II; their roles are much more pronounced in Suikoden.

Suikoden II

These are recurring characters whose first appearance was in Suikoden II.

Georg Prime

Georg Prime (ゲオルグ プライム, Georugu Puraimu) is renowned throughout the Suikoden world as a skilled swordsman with a colorful past. He was once one of the Six Great Generals of the Scarlet Moon Empire (though he did not appear in Suikoden), he was a member of the Ebony Moon Knights in the Grasslands, and he was also one of the Queendom of Falena's Queen's Knights by Suikoden V.

During his career as a member of the Queendom of Falena's Queen's Knights, Georg was involved in an incident where he bore responsibility as the person who assassinated Queen Arshtat Falenas. As such, Georg had to leave Falena and was considered missing until he appeared once again during the Dunan Unification War to lend his skills to the player in Suikoden II. He also appeared in Genso Suikogaiden.

Killey

Killey (キリィ, Kirī) is a researcher of the Sindar in Suikoden II and Suikoden V known for his affronting demeanor. He hails from a tribe that lives in northern Falena, and during his work he has crossed paths with Lorelai (a fellow Sindar-seeker) several times.

In Suikoden V, Killey is one of the runeologists hired to investigate the Sun Rune, but Gizel Godwin is suspicious of Killey upon his arrival, and eventually he is sent to Agate Prison, where the player may talk to him if they so choose before he escapes. Later, Killey appears near the Lake Castle, where he is taken to see the Sealed Room and watch the Dawn Rune in action. He leaves, but later joins the player character's forces after meeting him again at the Sindar Ruins in the west of Falena. In Suikoden II, Killey interrogates Alex regarding his 'treasure' and finally joins the Dunan Army afterward when the hero catches up to him in South Window.

Lilly Pendragon

Lilly Pendragon (リリィ ペンドラゴン, Rirī Pendoragon) is the daughter of President Gustav of Tinto. At the age of 6, in Suikoden II she is kidnapped by Neclord, who intends to raise her into a proper young lady to be his bride; however, she is rescued by the player's party, including Viktor, Sierra, and Kahn Marley. By Suikoden III, she is old enough to travel on her own, and is accompanied by two bodyguards — Samus and Reed—as she investigates rumors of the Fire Bringer's resurgence for Tinto. She falls in with Hugo's band while in the Duck Clan village. Later in the game, Lilly eventually comes to Brass Castle to meet the new Flame Champion, and she aids the Grassland/Zexen forces afterward.

Lucia

Lucia (ルシア, Rushia) is the Chief of the Karaya Clan of the Grasslands. In Suikoden II, she is an antagonist working for Highland on the condition that the Karaya Clan will be granted land if successful; her ulterior motive is to take revenge on those who murdered her father during a peace meeting, Gorudo and Alec Wisemail. After the defeat of the Highland Army at L'Renouille, Lucia returns to the Grasslands and eventually forgives Teresa Wisemail, Alec's daughter and current mayor of Greenhill, for her father's death. She later gives birth to a son, Hugo, who succeeds her as chief of the Karaya Clan after her resignation.

Sasarai

Sasarai (ササライ, Sasarai) is a bishop of Harmonia and bearer of the True Earth Rune. He appears in both Suikoden II and Suikoden III, leading Harmonian forces into neighboring territories. Sasarai was trained from early childhood to become a bishop of the Harmonian Church, a position of extremely high rank within the Harmonian theocratic government.

In Suikoden II, he leads Harmonian reinforcements intended to support Highland's campaign against the City-States of Jowston. His involvement was short-lived, however, as his forces were devastated by Luc and the power of his True Wind Rune. Shortly afterward, Sasarai became involved in the struggle for power within the Howling Voice Guild, where he aided Nash in his revenge against Zaj Quilos during the events of Genso Suikogaiden. In Suikoden III, Sasarai is manipulated by Luc (as the Masked Bishop) into an invasion against the Grasslands; the Harmonian forces are initially successful, but are finally driven back by the power of the True Fire Rune. Soon afterward, Luc reveals his betrayal of Harmonia by forcibly taking Sasarai's True Earth Rune, as well as revealing the true nature of Sasarai and himself—both are clones of High Priest Hikusaak, created to bear the True Runes that Harmonia had acquired. Sasarai then allies himself and Harmonia with the new Flame Champion's forces in order to defeat Luc.

Tuta

Tuta (トウタ, Touta) is a traveling doctor. In Suikoden II, he apprenticed under Huan at the city of Muse; Huan eventually tells him to join Viktor's mercenaries in order to gain experience as a field medic. In Suikoden III, he and his own student, Mio, journeyed through the Grasslands, where they joined the Fire Bringer.

Characters with minor roles

Beecham (ビッチャム, Bicchamu), Lucia's second-in-command, has an extremely minor role assisting her in both Suikoden II and Suikoden III. Retso (レツオウ, Retsuō) makes a cameo appearance in Suikoden II at a cook-off with Suikoden's Antonio and Lester, and he is a Star of Destiny in Suikoden V as a cook. His daughter, Shun Min (シュンミン, Shunmin) (according to Suikoden V)) does not appear in Suikoden II, though she is referred to in conversation as 'Shin Mun'.

Suikogaiden

The Gensō Suikogaiden side stories contain many characters that also appear in Suikoden II.

Nash Latkje

Nash Latkje (ナッシュ ラトキエ, Nasshu Ratokie) is the main character of Genso Suikogaiden as the titular "Swordsman of Harmonia". The eldest son of the powerful and well-known Latkje family of Harmonia, his family falls from grace after he is forced to kill Zaj Quilos, who poisoned his father in a plot to take over the Latkje household, and flee the Crystal Valley. During the events of Genso Suikogaiden, Nash meets and either helps or is helped by many characters from Suikoden and Suikoden II, his journey eventually leading him to discover that Zaj is still alive and intends to kill him.

After returning to the Crystal Valley and winning his duel against Zaj, Nash disappears, only to reappear in Suikoden III as a Star of Destiny, accompanying Chris Lightfellow at the request of Salome Harras as she searches for her estranged father. In truth, however, he is acting as an agent of Harmonia to investigate the Fire Bringers and the Masked Bishop.

Riou was taught how to use a tonfa by his adopted father, Genkaku.
