Visual Supply Company (VSCO) Information

Visual Supply Company [1] created a photo-editing app called VSCO.  Visual Supply Company is a technology company that allows people everywhere to create, discover, and connect through their app.  IOS and Android users can express their voice through creativity.  Artists can share their culture through a photography journal within a community.  This app provides the opportunity for users to post their art work with out playing the "popularity game" and not worrying about "likes" or "shares" [2].

History

Visual Supply Company was created by Joel Flory and Greg Lutze in 2011 [3].  The company is based in California.  Artifact Uprising is a company that Visual Supply Company acquired in 2015.  Visual Supply Company locations remain in Denver, Colorado and Oakland, California.  Location in New York no longer exists [4].

Visual Supply Company continues to fix the app by solving various issues and bugs on version 24.0.

Accomplishments

  • Visual Supply Company raised $40 million from investors in May 2014 [5]
  • More than 72 million Instagram posts are captioned with the hashtag #vscocam.

Features

Visual Supply Company and Artifact Uprising redesigned the mobile app (VSCO) by improving the navigation and social features.  VSCO lets users publish their photography through a journal for the public to see.   This photo-editer is free to download for beginners or experts.  Images are edited through tools such as fade, clarity, skin tone, tint, sharpen, saturation, contrast, temperature, and more.  VSCO gives the high-quality and professional look to photos.  Moments can be captured with the in-app camera and manual controls.  Users can publish and repost from friends or people from around the world.

This app exists in both a free version and as a paid subscription.  VSCO X membership includes over 100 presets, exclusive Film X^tm presets and tools, and more additions monthly.  These upgrades interact with warmth and character tools that give models the effect of exposure and scanning to analog film [6].
