David J. Grain was born on May 31, 1962 in
Brooklyn, New York. His parents are Dora and Walter Grain.
Grain went to Vineyard Regional High School located in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. He attended
College of the Holy Cross in
Worcester, Massachusetts, while playing football. Grain finished his undergraduate studies in 1984 and continued his graduate studies at Dartmouth College,
Tuck School of Business in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1989.[1] Grain earned his undergraduate degree in English, and his graduate degree in M.B.A.[2]
Career
David J. Grain started his career at Drexel in 1989[1], while still attending college as a short summer-associate position. After completing his degree, he started working at the same company until the same company filled for bankrupt, which pushed him to move to
Kidder Peabody and than to
Morgan Stanley, where he worked in multiple areas but highly interested in tech, media, and telecom transactions.
After
Morgan Stanley, he has moved on to accept a position at
AT&T as SVP(Senior Vice President) of the
New England region in 2000.[1] Following sale of AT&T to
Comcast, David J. Grain moved to
Fortress Investment Group, Pinnacle Towers(also known as Global Signal)[3] for a President position.[4] While holding a position of a President at Pinnacle Holdings, Inc, he helped the company get out of bankruptcy and accomplish a portfolio of approximately 11,000 communication sites.
In 2006, he left Pinnacle Holdings and founded Grain Communications Group, Inc., and a year later
Grain Management, LLC. Company had a main interest of investing in the wireless communication sector.[1]Grain Management, LLC has headquarters in Washington, DC, and offices in New York City, New York, Sarasota, Florida and London, England.[5]
David J. Grain has also been appointed leadership roles in other organizations such as serving on the board of trustees for
Emerson College and the
College of the Holy Cross.[1]
David J. Grain started working with
Dell Technologies board of Directors in 2021,[6] as well as he became a director of Southern Company in 2012.[5]
David J. Grain is a member of the board of Martha's Vineyard Museum.[6]
Achievements
David J. Grain has been elected to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council by President Obama.[4]
Mr. Grain has also served as Chairman of the Florida State Board of Administration Investment Advisory Council.[4] As a Chairman he provided independent oversight of the state board's funds, as well as investment responsibilities including investments towards Florida Retirement System programs.[5]
