Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia, most commonly caused by insulin use or oral medications, is often associated with hypothermia [1]. This occurs because of neuroglycopenic effects on hypothalamic function [1]. Neuroglycopenia occurs when the brain has a shortage of glucose, and this can affect how the hypothalamus is functioning [1]. As hypothalamic function becomes dysfunctional body temperature regulation can become altered leading to hypothermia [1].
Hypothyroidism
Severe hypothyroidism can be attributed to hypothermia [1]. Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid is underactive [1]. When it is severe it can reduce the metabolic rate [1]and impair thermogenesis, leading to hypothermia [1].
