Canaan Ene (Born 17 May, 1998) is a content creator and musician from New Zealand. He is known for his work in the reggae music genre. [1]
Canaan Ene Ponifasio was born on May 17, 1998, in Auckland, New Zealand. He has three sisters, and is of Samoan descent. [2] He developed his musical ability growing up in church, where his parents are pastors. [1] He is the nephew of renowned artist Lemi Ponifasio.
Ene began his career as a wedding videographer in 2017. [2] In 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, he began posting videos of himself on Tiktok remixing songs into the reggae genre which went viral, amassing over 100,000 new followers in a short span of time. [2] This sparked a series of successful collaborations with many local and international artists, such as NZ reggae artist Swiss, and Hawaiian songstress Chardonnay. He is most well known for his unofficial reggae remix of Adele's ' Easy On Me', which has surpassed 2 million plays on YouTube. [3]
In December 2021, Ene released an official reggae remix of Stan Walker's track 'Come Back Home', which featured on his seventh studio album 'All In'. [1]
In August 2023, Canaan Ene mixed and mastered Fijian band InsideOut's EP "IO". [4]
On August 8 2023, Canaan Ene was nominated for three Pacific Music Awards. This included " Best Pacific Language", "Best Roots/Reggae Artist", and "Best Music Video" [5]. [1]
In 2023, Ene received funding from NZ On Air for a full length album. [6]
Ene resides in South Auckland with his wife. He is a Christian.
