Joy Gabriel (born 13 April 1994) is an Indian football coach and former player who played as a winger. He is currently the head performance analyst & scout at Hyderabad FC, where he is also assigned the role of the Head coach of the U13 Youth league team. He joined Hyderabad FC midseason in 2020 just short of the clubs sacking of English coach Phil Brown. Joy Gabriel took over as the clubs new head performance analyst and resumed office as the backroom staff for the newly appointed Head Coach Albert Rocca and his interim Xavier Gurri and Indian assistant M.Wadoo . Joy Gabriel also holds an AFC C License in coaching and is also the Head Coach of the U13 Hyderabad FC side for the Sub Junior Youth League.

Playing career

Joy, began playing football from his young age in Coimbatore. He was the captain of the Stanes School Football team from 2008 to 2012. Joy also lead the Coimbatore district Sub Junior and Junior teams for a span of 4 years at the state championship and also represented the Tamil Nadu football team in over 5 National Championships (Mahilpur, Goa, Siliguri, Chandigarh & Srinagar).

After his schooling, he joined the prestigious Loyola College of Arts & Science in Chennai and continued playing for the Loyola Football Team which was coached by Former Indian Coach CM Ranjith. The Loyola team players formed a team in the Chennai Football League where Star Juvenile FC progressed from 2nd Division to First Division and then to the Chennai Super Division as Viva Chennai FC. Joy was key in the teams success in promotion finishing the season with 14 goals and joint top goal scorer for Ranjiths team along with Saravana Kumar. Post university, Joy quit playing regular football and starting studying further into sports analytics and football coaching.


Working career

Joy first joined Agaram Sports Tech in 2015 & 2016 where he worked as the backend analyst for BCCI projects, IPL projects involving Kings XI Punjab, Gujarat Lions and International projects for the Zimbabwe National Team. He also had the backend data and video analysis experience of working for TNPL franchise Dindugal Dragons and Tuti Patriots in the inaugural season of the TNPL. Agaram also gave him a multi sport experience working backend for COAL Hockey India League franchise Ranchi Rays owned by Sakshi Dhoni. Joy left Agaram upon joining I-League debutant Minerva Punjab Fc in 2016.


Coaching career

Joy Gabriel began coaching kids at his base academy First Kick School of Soccer in Coimbatore where he grew up learning football. After his college, he joined Chennaiyin FC as grassroots coach under the leadership of Vivek Nagul and Technical Director from the UEFA Piet Hubers. After that he learnt sports science and analysis and began working with analysis for professional clubs. Later in 2020, Hyderabad FC offered him an additional role as the Head Coach of the Under 13 team for the upcoming Sub Junior youth league.


Personal life

Joy's father is a sound engineer and mother Dr. Daphne Prema is a veterinarian who works for the Aavin Milk producers in Coimbatore. Joy's younger brother Joshua is an athlete who runs an athletic academy in Coimbatore. Joy is the founder of one of Asia's best football youth tournaments called the International Cup of Joy which was started in 2017 and hosts leading ISL, I-League and AFC club teams from India and Maldives.
