Patrick Bashford (born 1929 [1] ) was a Polish-born professor of classical guitar at the Royal College of Music [1] , Vogue model, and familiar face of the 50s & 60s [2] .
John Patrick Bashford was born near Katowice, Poland [2] . Both his parents, Marisa was Polish and Roderick was British [2] worked for British Consular Service in Germany until the Second World War, when they were transferred to Sweden [3]
Patrick was educated at Wells House prep school in Malvern [2] , St Paul’s, southwest London, and then at the Guildhall School of Music [4]

It is said that his pioneering work helped turned male modelling into a respectable profession [4]
As a model he was noted for his amber eyes and athlete’s carriage. He worked as a model for over thirty years. [3]
In later life he became a classical guitarist. It is said that his love of the guitar came from his Polish nanny singing him lullabies [4]. He was 20 when he was invited by American poet Samuel Menashe on a trip to Andalucia and fell in love with the sound [2]. Patrick studied with José Rey de la Torre at Mannes College in New York [2]. He became a world recognised expert in Spanish classical guitar [5].
Patrick became a professorship at the Royal College of Music in 1972 [5] .
His wife was Ana Raquel Satre who is a operatic soprano. They had one child [6] . They separated in 1980s.
Patrick had an older brother, Christopher [2] .
His Uncle was Sir Henry Bashford honorary Physician to King George VI [3] .
