Jet van Wijk is a Dutch author and founder of several companies, including Laptop Lifestyle Master Program [1] and JVW Agency. She is an internet personality and an advocate for mental health and ethical marketing. She is the author of the tell-all book “What Influence” on the dark side of the influencer industry.
Van Wijk was born in Winschoten, Groningen, in the Netherlands, and moved to Hurdegaryp at the age of 3.
She studied at CSG Liudger and later attended Stenden University in Leeuwarden, where she studied International Hospitality Management. [2]. In her third year, she did a Grand Tour and traveled to Bali and Bankok. Her six-month study abroad program ignited a desire to break free from conventional career paths, leading Van Wijk to become a travel blogger. [3] [4]During her fourth year, Van Vijk did an internship with Hilton Hotels in London, based in the Hilton London Kensington, in the HR department. [5]
Van Wijk transitioned from being a travel blogger and influencer to high-ticket freelancing due to the impact of social media on her mental health, leading her to writing ‘What Influence’ as an insider’s POV on the negative side of the industry. [6] She scaled her high-ticket freelancing, launching JVW Agency [7] as a social media and marketing agency. [8] [9]
Van Wijk launched the Laptop Lifestyle Master Program with e-courses, e-learning, and productsfc to teach entrepreneurs how to secure high-paying clients as digital freelancers without burning themselves. Van Wijk told The LA Tribune that her goal is to “make the transition into the digital space easier and help people learn how to use technology to escape 9-5”. [10]
In 2021, she published “What Influence”, a tell-all book on her experience as an influencer and the detrimental impact the industry had on her mental health. Van Wijk also contributed to Rhonda Swan’s [11] Barnes and Noble best-seller “Women Gone WILD! Intuition Edition” [12], a book on the innate wisdom and perceptiveness of the female experience. [13] [14]
Van Wijk advocates for an authentic approach to social media, telling Forbes that “social media conformity represents a dangerous trend, where people…feel pressured to conform to certain online behaviors and lifestyles…as an ex-influencer, I’ve witnessed first-hand the negative impact this can have on mental health and personal identity.” [15]
Van Wijk was the featured cover story of the June 2024 edition of WILD magazine, reflecting on her decade’s experience in digital marketing and the goal of her coaching programs to make online entrepreneurship accessible to everyone. [16]
She attended the debut ‘Confluence’ by TEDxAyala Avenue Women as a guest speaker in July 2024. [17]
Van Wijk has appeared as a digital marketing expert in several TV shows and internet-based shows, including FOX San Diego , Pix 11, Rock the Stage Show [18], ANC Business Roadshow [19], and Omrop Fryslan [20].
She won the prestigious Clickfunnels 2 Comma Club award in recognition of her 7-figure coaching program, the Laptop Lifestyle Master Program, which recognizes entrepreneurs who have achieved a million dollars in sales.
