About Me

My laboratory is chiefly interested in studying the relationships between marine microorganisms and biogeochemical cycles. We use a multifaceted approach, including cultivation-based and cultivation-independent techniques. I attended the University of California, San Diego for my undergraduate education, worked as a technician at The Scripps Research Institute, and completed my Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009 in the laboratory of John D. Coates. I completed a postdoc in the lab of Stephen J. Giovannoni at Oregon State University.
