USS Atlantic (SP-1182) a 58 foot motorboat named after the Atlantic Ocean. Served during World War I from 1917-1919 patrolling the Fith Naval District. The Fith Naval District included the inland and coastal waterways of it's homestate North Carolina. Constructed in 1903 as an ordinary motorboat, it was obtained by the U.S. Navy in August of 1917 from the State of North Carolina. Then employed and used for its patrolling duties of said naval ditrict. In January of 1919, was decommisioned from duty about two months following the Armistice of World War I, which ended fighting throughout the world. It was later returned to it's owner, the State of North Carolina.
