Towards the end of March 1980, the weather to the north of Fiji became disturbed, with two tropical depressions developing to the north-east of Udu Point on the Fijian island of Vanua Levu. The first depression developed during March 31, while it was located about 185 km (115 mi) * to the northeast of Udu Point. The depression subsequently started to weaken as it moved westwards away from Fiji, before the second depression developed during the next day, while it was located about 185 km (115 mi) * to the north-east of Udu Point.
