'Alan Abel' (Born in 1929) was the Associate Principal Percussionist of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1958 to 1997. He spent many years teaching young percussionists in the Philadelphia area during his tenure with the Philadelphia Orchestra and after his retirement. Many have gone on to populate the finest percussion groups and percussion sections in orchestras in the United States and around the world.
