Southern Cross is a nationally known San Jose, California based BDSM group. Founded in January 2004 by Strong Eagle and his slave, shadow, it has traditionally been the 2nd largest BDSM organization in Santa Clara County.
Southern Cross is a pansexual BDSM group that carries and emphasis on the Master/slave way of living and the support of that power exchange dynamic between consenting adults. It is a non-profit, volunteer run group with a permanent management staff including the founders Strong Eagle & shadow, and the senior staff of Miss Vicki, Miss Courtney, and Allikitty. They do not have a formal membership policy.
Southern Cross is a coalition member of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom and the parent organization of SUBspace, (a regional BDSM support and discussion group for submissives and those on the receiving side of power exchange relationships), The Friday Munch (a regular weekly meeting of like minded adults to eat and share information),and The Annual Valley Fundraiser (a yearly event benefiting local BDSM spaces and kink groups).
Originally conceived as a discussion list on Yahoo for open communications unencumbered by politics or personal gain, the cancellation of Black Rose in 2004 created a severe loss of fundraising options for the NCSF and spurred the founders and staff to being an annual 4th of July fundraiser in the Santa Clara Valley focused on charity. The following spring (Friday, May 13th 2005) the founders expanded to include hosting a weekly Munch to provide fellowship possibilities for kink minded adults with an emphasis on welcoming new people into the BDSM scene and offering space for educational nights such as their munch class with Roy "Viper" Martin on whip making and whip throwing skills and book signing educational night with Jack Rinella.
The opening of Edges playspace for BDSM in Santa Clara California on April 1, 2006 provided yet another reason for the Friday Munch as kinksters were encouraged to meet up after work and then attend and support the new dungeon. With the opening of Edges, fund raising was focused on that local group and educational classes were moved to that venue on a regular basis.
Southern Cross continues to do outreach for 'newbies' as well as working with leather groups such as ACLA and The Brotherhood, The NCSF, Edges, E-Fest, and MAsTSCC.
