Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: Self-nom -- HughCharlesParker ( talk - contribs) 20:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I have been a Wikipedian for two years. I've done quite a lot of general wikignoming, as well as some vandal-fighting, and I've contributed to Miscellany for deletion and requests for admin. I'm a careful editor, and I've read a lot of policy (though I understand that common sense trumps process). I edit sporadically - sometimes I'm too busy to do much editing. I don't promise to be on here every day, but when I am around I think I've got enough experience to start helping out with the administrative backlog. -- HughCharlesParker ( talk - contribs) 17:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. You may wish to answer the following optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: I think it's probably wise to start slowly - do some of the more obvious stuff first and move on to the more complex / borderline stuff when I've got a bit of experience as an admin. I'd probably start by helping to clear admin intervention against vandalism, speedy deletions, expired proposed deletions, images that have been moved to commons, etc.
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A:I did quite a lot to Home Information Pack. I'm trying to get it to good article status. I've done some work on Brain Gym. I made a big difference to the referencing on both. I also re-wrote Role Model. Other than that, I've started quite a few articles. There's a link to the list of stuff I've done further down this page.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: 71.96.241.173 ( talk · contribs) posted ten questions to the helpdesk in fifteen minutes, of a fairly unhelpful type. We then had the discussion that's on her talk page. In the end I posted to Administrator Intervention against vandalism, and Edgar181 semiprotected her userpage for 24 hours and she went away. I'd do the same if a similar situation came up again. Even if I were an admin, it's better that two people are involved, otherwise the newbie user could get the impression that they're being victimised by one editor.
I don't think I've ever really got stressed about editing wikipedia, or been in any conflicts, other than the one above. I tend to stick to part one of the dispute resolution process.
