After reviewing your proposed changes, you seem to have a good grasp on how you would like to update the article and fill it out more with necessary information both about Type I Collagen as well as the implications/ applications within the biomedical field of study.
LEAD: Your proposed lead is a step up from what is already there for sure. The only thing I see to get rid of would be to lose the 'as mentioned' at the start of your second paragraph.
CONTENT: Though you are in the early stages of drafting your article, the content you look to add is necessary for updating the page.
TONE: Your tone is good and non-biased to my eye.
SOURCES: Your sources look good; however, instead of using MedLine Plus as a source, see if any references within that site is a review or secondary source. You may be able to illuminate more information more accurately if so.
ORGANIZATION: One change that may be beneficial to your overall page design would be to have the physiochemical properties section directly after the structure section before you get to the formation. To me, it seems a bit more streamlined that way.
Other than that I believe you have a good idea of what you want to turn this article into, I am excited to see the final product.
