My Bio
I was born in
West Virginia on
03 November
1977, then moved to
North Carolina at age 10, which means I'm basically a confirmed Southerner. It was really hard to resist adding that "sweet tea" userbox, let me tell you.
I did my undergrad degree at
Duke University, graduating in
2000 with a BA in
linguistics and a minor in Spanish. I received an MA in linguistics from the
University of Michigan in
2003; my main linguistic interests are
conversation analysis and
sociolinguistics, although lately I've found myself getting interested in (articulatory)
phonetics, somewhat to my surprise... I suffered through a really bad course in it.
Currently, I'm an
ESL teacher specializing in pronunciation (
IPA rules!) living in
Ann Arbor,
Michigan.
Interests
I enjoy
cooking (especially
baking) and of course eating (especially international food I've never had before), travelling, learning foreign languages, reading, writing the occasional fanfic, working out and/or going for a hike or a nice long walk,
photography,
orienteering, and camping with certain friends who understand how important a proper shower is to my well-being. And I adore
cats.
But of course I actually spend most of my time watching sci-fi TV. My all-time favorite shows are
Doctor Who (I'm a huge fan of
Mel Bush, aka
Bonnie Langford),
The X-Files and the
Buffyverse.
Aside from the three biggies, I've also been a fan of
The Twilight Zone,
The Outer Limits,
Twin Peaks,
Nightmare Cafe,
Nowhere Man,
Earth 2,
Lois & Clark,
Sliders,
Roswell,
Seven Days,
Millennium,
Harsh Realm,
Red Dwarf,
Sapphire & Steel,
John Doe,
Firefly,
Tru Calling,
Stargate SG-1,
Lost,
Threshold,
Night Stalker,
Supernatural,
Ghost Whisperer and the various recent incarnations of
Star Trek (I especially like the
Trill).
And it's not all sci-fi... I'll sit down to watch
Mystery Science Theatre 3000,
The Chimp Channel,
Ally McBeal,
Family Guy,
Father Ted,
Keeping Up Appearances,
Wife Swap, and
24. I also adore classic sit-coms (my favorites being
I Love Lucy,
The Dick Van Dyke Show,
The Mary Tyler Moore Show,
Rhoda,
Bewitched... and
Alfred Hitchcock Presents, if that counts!). As a child, my absolute favorite cartoon was
Super Friends.
Currently, my all-time favorite movie is
Run Lola Run.
I've been involved in online fandom since late
1992, when I joined
Prodigy, where I met lots of really great people and picked the
username that I'm still using today.

After editing articles anonymously for a few weeks, I decided to bite the bullet and join Wikipedia on

I don't feel confident editing articles in any of my professional fields, so I mainly stick to my favorite topic: science-fiction television. I usually just make minor edits related to my personal favorite programs:
I've also been known to create pages for topics that I can't believe didn't exist already:
I like to put my predilection for travel to use in improving
Wikitravel.
