Jenni is the tenth studio album released by American singer-songwriter Jenni Rivera on September 9, 2008 by Universal Music Latin Entertainment. ^[2] The album features the hit banda song "Chuper Amigos" and the hit single "Culpable o Inocente".

Jenni reached number-one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums Chart in the United States. It reached number 27 on the Top 100 chart in Mexico. It was nominated for Popular Album of the Year at the 2009 Premios Oye!, where as "Culpable o Inocente" was nominated for Record of the Year. ^[3] Jenni won Top Latin Album of the Year at the 2009 Billboard Latin Music Awards. It achieved Platinum status in Mexico.

Recordings

The album was recorded between 2007 and 2008. The first track, "Chuper Amigos", was composed by Rivera. The second track, Culpable o Inocente, was first performed by Mexican singer Lucía Méndez on her album, Cerca de ti (1982).

Commercial reception

In its first week of release, the album entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at number thirty-one in the United States and peaked at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums Chart. ^[4] It moved 16,000 copies in its first week at retail giving Rivera her first Top Latin Album number one album and best sales week ever, at the time. ^[5] In Mexico, the album peaked at number twenty-seven on the Top 100 Mexico albums chart. It was certified platinum and gold by AMPROFON for shipping 120,000 copies in the country.

Singles

"Culpable o Inocente", was released as the lead single from the album on September 9, 2008. In the United States, the song peaked at number fifteen on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and number four on the Billboard Regional Mexican Songs chart. "Chuper Amigos", was released as the second single and reached number thirty-seven on the Hot Latin Sings Chart and reached number six on the Regional Mexican Songs chart. "Tu Camisa Puesta", was the final single released from the album and peaked at number twenty-four on the Hot Latin Songs chart and reached number thirteen on the Regional Mexican Songs chart.

Billboard's writer Ayala Ben-Yehud gave the album a positive review, writing "Banda diva Jenni Rivera has trademarked a swingy, midtempo groove on her brass-heavy tunes and a cackling bluntness that other regional Mexican singers of her generation don't even approach." ^[8] Allmusic gave the album 3.5 out of 5 on Jenni, calling it "her best work in the past decade". ^[6] Jenni was nominated for Album of the Year at the 8th Annual Premios Oye! in 2009, which went to Vicente Fernández for Primera Fila. It was also nominated for Best Banda/Duranguense Album by a Duo/Group or Solo but lost to La Arrolladora Banda El Limón for Más Adelante. "Culpable o Inocente" was nominated for Record of the Year which was awarded to Vicente Fernández for " El Último Beso".

Rivera was awarded Female Regional Mexican Artist of the Year and Banda Artist of the Year at the 2009 Lo Nuestro Awards.
