Jayne Owen Bruner is considered one of the most successful female masters swimmers in the world. [2] [3]
She lives in Reston, Virginia, United States, and she is a member of the DC Masters team. [3]
At the age of 21, she joined the Riviera Club team in Indianapolis, and took part in the national championships but only for a few years: when the team disbanded, she gave up the sport. She only took up swimming again at the age of 39, encouraged by her husband Bob in 1973. [2] [4] Coached over time by Jan Smith, Bob Clemmer, Mark Davin and Steve Ercolano, she spent 24 years on the Team Pittsburgh Aquatics team, then joined the Curl-Burke Swim Team, competing with the DC Masters Team. [4]
She competed in her first national competitions in 1974, then participated and won numerous world championships organised by FINA, [5] [3] achieving a total of 40 world records. [6] Her last national record was set on 18 August 2001, at the age of 67, with the 50 breaststroke in a long pool (45"22). [7]
USMS Athletes considers Bruner to be one of the most successful female masters swimmers in the world for over 16 years. [2] [3]
