Claudine Glot, born Arthurian legend, Celtic mythology and the Matter of Britain.
March 12, 1947, is a French writer and specialist inArriving in Brittany at the age of twenty, Claudine Glot was interested in the heritage of the region and contributed to many articles on the subject before publishing her first independent works. She founded the journal Artus in 1979, and remained editorial secretary until it ceased publication. In 1988, she co-founded the Centre de l’Imaginaire Arthurien, located since 1990 at the Château de Comper, and has presided over both this and the Centre d’interprétation des légendes celtiques ever since.
She is occupied by exhibitions and conferences while continuing to regularly publish novels on her favourite subjects.
Born in the Dordogne, since childhood Claudine Glot was interested by mythical and fabulous legends, encouraged by her mother's family's extensive library and her teachers. She has never known her father's family who were originally from Algeria.
She kept her taste for tales and legends, studying Latin, Greek and modern literature, before specializing in the Celtic domain during a period when these tales were not widely known. At the same time, by an accident of circumstance, she moved to Brittany, near the Forest of Brocéliande, and discovered the local tales. She married Hervé Glot, whose brief entry into Breton activism has often been criticised and wrongly associated with the movements of the extreme right, which she never joined. In the early 1970s, she sold Breton newspapers and marched "with bagpipes and people in costume" [1].
In 1979, she founded the journal Artus in Nantes. Announced by the magazine Pays de Bretagne, the journal included feature articles devoted to Celtic and Nordic countries as well as presenting distinctive Breton regional features. She received contributions from people of all political persuasions and remained the editorial secretary until it ceased publication.
Over the years she has beome a recognized expert in Arthurian legend, largely due to her activities at the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien. Founded in 1988 by Claudine Glot, her husband Hervé and some of her friends (such as Pierre Dubois who remains Chancellor), the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien is hosted at the Château de Comper. Claudine Glot has presided over the Centre since its inception as she is especially occuped with the exhibitions, whose theme changes each year, guided tours or conferences.
In addition to issues related to the Arthurian legend, at the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien Claudine Glot embraces fairy tales, the Celts and the Forest of Broceliande.
Author of twenty books on the Celtic and medieval world, Claudine Glot began writing articles on these subjects in magazines such as GEO or Grands Reportages''. Glot has mainly realised adaptations for young readers. The proceedings of a conference held at Metz in 2009 praised her approach to writing, that "often facilitates reading for young people, to the extent that they always respect medieval sensabilities." [2].
In addition to curating the annual exhibition at the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien, Claudine Glot has organised two others at the l' abbaye de Daoulas, the first on legendary creatures in 1993 ( FaeriEs, elves, dragons and other creatures of the faery realms) and the other on the theme of Europe at the time of Vikings (with Michel Le Bris).
Claudine Glot is regularly invited to festivals devoted to legends or the Middle Ages, on the 24 April 2010, she presented the Prix Oriande d'honneur to Pierre Dubois during the Printemps des Légendes de Monthermé in recognition of his work in pour récompenser l'ensemble de son travail en faveur de la féerie [3]. Claudine Glot and the Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien were invited as guests of honour by the 27th Médiévales de Provins [4].
She has explained the Arthurian legends on the bonus DVD of the French television series Kaamelott.
