Foreword

It begins with welcoming the reader to the author's new Terra nullius or a new undiscovered way of combining the two genres together into one narrative; Science Fiction and Native people. Referring back to the author's childhood, a reminder that he is of Native heritage was occurring every time he used one of the white man's technology. Always bringing back the fact that the indigenous people's technological disadvantage over the ones that came for dinner and have never left. Which leads to the Native people questioning why the need for them to create keep creating clever innovations and devices one after another. Translating further on how the pairing of aborigines and Science Fiction used for this novel are so foreign to each other.

The two topics make for a rather awkward combination, like putting the words fish and bicycles into the same sentence. The Sci-fi television series, Star Trek is used as an example of the combination of the rarely used genre; Native science fiction. The main plot revolves around a group that traverses the unknown of the universe discovering new species and planets each episode. The author's fascination of science fiction drives him to explore the possibility of the merging of the native people in the world of space travel, time travel, aliens, robots, ect. The correlation of the usage of hybridizing and his mixed heritage, being half Ojibway has always symbolized his hobby. With representation of the world of First Nations and literature limited to only stories from a bygone past, the author is rallying behind his desire for change of the portrayal of the indigenous people and for other Native writers to as well.
