One Hour Endorphin Release is a comedy club in Clubhouse. Inspired by Norman Cousins, Dr. Farhad Kahkeshan created this club in 2021. The club is run by a great number of comedians and meets every night at 9:30 pm, Iran time. To view the club, click here.
The humour used in the club often focuses on the social and cultural issues in the contemporary Iranian society, or anything pertinent to human nature in general. There are a variety of techniques used by the club members to enhance humour which include vocal laughter (i.e., laughter accompanied by drawling certain vowels and or consonants), tsunami laughter, vocalic laughter (inspired by the Iranian classical music), surprise laughter, sentence repetition laughter, just to name a few.
Currently the club offers two programs. One is a turn based program in which the comedians on stage take turns to tell a joke or an anecdote, while the others are muted. As soon as a comedian is finished with a joke, others on the stage unmute themselves and laugh out loud. It is highly likely that one would burst into laughter as they see others laugh. Each turn based session comprises of different parts. One part of the session is devoted to reciting poetry, characteristic of the Persian language and culture. The themes in poems often focus on love, kindness, happiness, hope, and prosperity. Yet, live music is often performed by artists usually at the end of each session. Any comedy that includes ethnic, discriminatory, religious, or sexual content is highly discouraged. The other program is stand up comedy. In this type of comedy usually one or two comedians will take the lead and others in the room will accompany.
