Life and career Born in Ziguinchor, Casamance, the southern region of Senegal, Professeur Ngom is the leading specialist of Ajami, a modified Arabic script, used to write non-Arabic languages, in Africa and Asia. Ajami texts have been found in the Americas. He is a graduate from Université Gaston Berger, in Saint-Louis, Senegal, holds a Masters from the University of Montana and a PhD. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Having started his teaching career at the University of Montana, he received his first tenured position at the University of Washington at Bellingham, in Washington State, in the US Pacific Northwest.A prolific author, Professeur Ngom has authored numerous scientific articles, books and edited academic volumes that have become references in the academic world.
