Roberto James Trevasani (Born 16 June 1949) is an American singer-songwriter. He is not widely known to the mainstream public, but has a loyal following in various parts of the world. His music style and personality has been compared to popular singers such as Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison.
He was the lead singer, song-writer and co-founder of Aeronight. He is better known by his stage name, Bob Jurneys, which he adopted under the impression it was far more accessible to the public.
Jurneys was born in Avondale, Arizona. His family emigrated to America in the early 19th Century, settling in Louisianna. At the time of the California Gold Rush his family headed west, but only made it as far as what is now Arizona. His father, Gennaro Trevasani is of Italian descent and was a decorated soldier in World war II, his mother, Louise Mae, was a piano teacher of British and French Origin. Bob Jurneys was raised in Avondale, and was the fourth of five children. He graduated high school with the intention of becoming an engineer, achieving particularly high grades. At the age of 18, while attending college, he met his future wife Marie Locke, who suggested forming a band with a few other students. Bob was at this time, quite capable of playing the piano, having learned from his mother; but took up the challenge of learning to play the guitar and vocals. The band quickly became popular on campus, and played at local venues on a regular basis. On February 29th, 1968, the band performed at a local radio station, increasing their exposure and popularity. Michael Francis was the chairman of an independant record label who saw potential in the band, and in particular Bob Trevasani. The band adopted the name "Aeronight" as a homage to aeroplanes that fly at night. Bob himself was encouraged to adopt a stage name. Until this point he had been known as Bob Trevasani, but he was pressured by the record label to come up with a new name. He adopted the name "Bob Jurneys" after it was suggested by Marie. Aeronight grew in popularity and released numerous songs which had limited success. In 1976 the band went on a tour in the USA, playing at 12 venues. According to Marie, "the reception was never better than lukewarm". The record label was unhappy with the takings, and negotiated to release the band from their contract. The release gave the band a considerable amount of money. In 1979, Bob allegedly heard that their music had a small but dedicated popularity in areas of Europe.
