Doris James "D. J." Witherspoon (August 24, 1912 - January 10, 2000), nicknamed Jim and Tex, was the co-founder of the discount general merchandising chain Pamida, Inc. Pamida stores were generally located in smaller communities that ranged from 3,000 to 8,000 in population. The Pamida name is comprised of the first two letters of the first names of Witherspoon's three sons: Pat, Mike, and David.
