HR Asia Best Companies To Work For

HR Asia Awards, organised by HR Asia Magazine, is based on a proprietary survey developed by HR Asia and encompasses employees' feedback and input, and management comments and presentation. About 6,000 employees were surveyed covering the issues of engagement, motivation and advocacy. [1]HR Asia is a regional and recognition award which takes place in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong that recognizes and rewards the best employer across industries. [2]HR Asia Best Companies to Work For In Asia (also referred to as HRAA) is an award conferred by Business Media International (BMI). [3]

Background

HR Asia Best Companies to Work For in Asia is presented by HR Asia Magazine, which is the region's publication for senior HR professionals, reaching 54,000 readers each quarter across all Asian economies. [4] It is a survey-driven award without categories which cover 12 markets across the region in Asia.A report would be published in HR Asia Magazine followed by an award ceremony where the Report would also be presented. [5]

HR Asia is published by Business Media International (BMI), a specialist business-to-business media owner. [6]

History

The award was first presented in Malaysia in 2013.

Eligibility

All companies in Asia with over 50 full-time equivalent employees and have been in operations for a minimum of 18 months at the time of submission are eligible to participate. However, as this is a market-specific programmes, the company must meet the above criteria in the market for which the company in. The organisers may waive or alter these requirements from time to time.

Judging Tool

HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia is judged by an independent panel of industry experts, academics, journalists and government representatives based on the HR Asia Employee Input Survey (EIS) Report and the HR Asia Workplace and Employee Engagement Survey (WEES). [2] The judges will be presented with an Executive Summary of each qualified participant anonymously, and the Report and Comparative Chart of the EIS and the WEES Scores to aid in their judging. [7]

HR Asia Empolyee Input SurveyTM

Participants are required to nominate a minimum of 20 employees (or 20% of FTE headcount, whichever lower) to participate in the HR Asia Employee Input Survey (EIS). There is no upper limit to the number of employees nominated to participate in the EIS. The selection of employees for the EIS should reflect diversity in the following: [8]

  • job area/specialisation
  • age
  • ethnic background
  • seniority/pay grade
  • geographical assignment.

Employees that are in the employment of the participant for less than six months or who do not constitute what is generally accepted as ‘full time employee’ are not allowed to participate in the EIS. EIS should be self-administered by the nominated employee via an online code provided upon submission of your nomination for HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia. Individual replies will not be provided to employers, although the aggregate result of the EIS, including comparative data will be provided as part of the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Report. The Survey is done entirely online. [9]

The nominated employees will answer around 30 questions covering the issues of engagement, motivation and advocacy using a 5-point scoring scale. On top of that, there are 3 open-ended questions which are optional but will provide input in their own words on these three issues. As to minimize the bias, the Organising and Audit Teams go through all submission to weed out erroneous or extreme answers prior to tabulation, summarisation and report generation. [10]

HR Asia Workplace and Employee Engagement SurveyTM

The participant of the HR Asia Best Companies to Work For in Asia will have to complete the HR Asia Workplace and Employee Engagement Survey (WEES) which surveys the employee turnover rate, employee growth rate and workplace accident rate, among others. The WEES needs to be signed-off by either the HR Director or CEO of the company as an acceptance that the Survey is complete and truthful. The answer of WEES and together with the EIS Report, will form the basis of judging and will be presented to the Judges for consideration. [11]

Grand Awards Ceremony

Malaysia

The first ceremony came out on 2nd July 2013, for the 21 winners in Malaysia that year. It was held at the InterContinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.  Featured speakers include Nora Abdul Manaf (Senior Executive Vice President, Human Capital, Maybank Group), Yap Swee Pheng (Senior Consultant, Tower Watsons Malaysia), and Priya Bala (Country Manager, Font Malaysia). [12]

In 2014, the ceremony was held on 20th August, at Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. 40 companies from Malaysia were announced the winners of the Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards 2014. In the second year of this award in Malaysia, 6,000 Malaysian employees were surveyed to determine their intention and motivation, emotional engagement and advocacy of their respective employers in total. Singapore

Also, in the second year of this award, it move to Singapore and held the ceremony on 26th June 2014, at Resort World Sentosa, Singapore, announced 13 winners of HR Asia award: BEST Companies to Work For In Asia 2014 for Singapore Edition.

Hong Kong

The first ceremony for this award in Hong Kong was held at JW Marriott Hotel, announced the 20 HK winners for the first year on 13th March, 2015. [14]
