I'm originally from [1]Utah, but am currently living in [2]Washington State. I spent some time growing up in [3]Beaver Dam, Arizona which is between [4]St.George, Utah and Mesquite, Nevada [5]. I have a love for animals, but more specifically dogs [6] and cats [7]. Some of the things that interest me are photography [8], reading, and movies. My photography interest is more towards nature photos. I love looking at the wonders of earth at different lighting angles. I don’t like reading anything other than Romance novels. Some of the authors I have read are Stephenie Meyer [9], Kaylee Ryan, and Kimberly Lauren. My movie preference varies, but one thing I will not watch are horror/scary movies.

Article review

I visited the Sarah Dessen page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the lack of citations, the need for current citations and the irrelevant sentences.

Lack of citation

There are citations on her Wikipedia page in the career section, with only two exceptions. “The early life and education” section has a total of three “citation needed” brackets. Also, the one citation that is in that section is for an article from “Seventeen Magazine” which makes me wary about it because that magazine is written so as to align with what readers want to hear instead of actual fact.

Need for current citations

Whether those who maintain the Sarah Dessen Wikipedia page consistently knew it or not, they have three citations with aging data reference problems. The first sentence of her, Sarah Dessen’s, page tells us she is a writer and where she lives, but the first two citations fail to present that data successfully when you click on them. One of them opens to a “not found” tab while the other webpage takes you to a book site that does not have that information on it. There is also another citation that takes the reader to a banner stating “this page is outdated.”

Irrelevant sentences

There are some sentences in her “early life and education” section that talk about her becoming friends with a 21-year-old male when she was 15 years old that does not seem to have much relevance. Though it may be a reference to a real event, it is not connected to any additional information and by itself, does not add to our understanding of who she is.

Summary

While I love Sarah Dessen’s work her Wikipedia page does not do her justice. This should be a place where those interested in learning more about the author can gather more information and discover what makes her great but before that can happen more citations would be needed for a useful picture to be available to the reader, it needs to replace old citations, and irrelevant sentences need to be cut.
