If the Citation Bot is systemically creating unwanted edits, it may be necessary to pause its activity by placing a block. (Only admins can do this.)

The bot operates from a number of accounts, so that only problematic edits need be stopped. Please do not unilaterally block all accounts without consideration. Details of what each account does are listed below. Usually a block of CB1 will suffice to prevent problems; it may also be necessary to block CB.

It can be difficult for me to fix bugs when a bot account is blocked. Therefore, if a block is related to a specific bug, it would be helpful if the block summary stated 'Can be unblocked when bug x is fixed' - this allows me to deal with the issue faster by unblocking the bot myself. Obviously, this should only be stated where applicable.

  • Citation bot ( talk · contribs) ( block): Only operates when initiated manually by a user. May be blocked if absolutely necessary; however do bear in mind that this will inconvenience users of the tool.
  • Citation bot test ( talk · contribs) ( block): Only operates when initiated manually by the maintainers, or exceptionally a 'civilian' user.

Paused accounts

The below accounts are not currently in active use, but may return to service in the future.

  • Citation bot 1 ( talk · contribs) ( block): Operates automatically, either under my supervision whilst I am fixing bugs or developing new features, or unsupervised when there are no outstanding bugs. Blocking this account is encouraged where unhandled systemic errors are present.
  • Citation bot 2 ( talk · contribs) ( block): Creates Cite Doi subpages when they don't exist. Converts Cite arXiv to Cite journal when papers are published. There should rarely be cause to block this account.
  • Citation bot 3 ( talk · contribs) ( block): Expands and formats Cite Doi subpages. Should only be blocked if it is deleteriously affecting the written output of the Cite Doi template, against the template documentation.
  • Citation bot 4 ( talk · contribs) ( block): Used for one-off tasks, using different code to other accounts. Should only be blocked if errant edits are being produced from this account.
