OhBliss ( Korean: 오블리스; RR: O Beulliseu) is a South Korean girl group formed by JT Corea Entertainment in 2016. Its name combines English exclamation "oh" and the word "blessing", conveying the aspiration to give happiness through music. [1]
Four out of five members had already experience in the entertainment industry before joining JT Corea Entertainment. Leader Mei acted and modeled from 2008 to 2014, placing third at Miss Intercontinental Korea & Tourism Queen International in 2013, [2] [3] and trained in JT Corea Entertainment for one year; [4] Chunglyn is a former child model and trained for five-six years; [4] Yeon-joo was part of girl group EvoL as J-Da from 2012 to 2015; Roa was part of a dance crew and appeared in Infinite Challenge music festival, [4] training for 4-5 years before debuting. [4]
After taking part in C&M Good Concert on October 15, 2016, [5] OhBliss debuted on October 17 with "Bunny Bunny" ( Korean: 바니바니), a pop mid-tempo song produced by Crazy Sound Team about a woman who wants to approach the opposite sex with fun. [4] OhBliss started promotions three days later on M! Countdown. [6] In the meantime, the group starred in its own webdrama Bunny Bunny, whose five episodes were released weekly on Naver TV Cast from November 1, and won the Rookie of the Year Award at the Korea Culture Entertainment Awards. [7] [8] On December 3, 2016, OhBliss was a guest at 5TION comeback mini concert at Hanyang University. [9] In November 2016, In-hwa was cast as Jin-rang, a young version of Hwang Jini, in Naver 12-episode web series A Touch on Your Cheek (네 볼에 터치), which was released from January 17, 2017. [10] [11]
On January 26, 2017, the group launched a crowdfunding campaign through Makestar for its second single, which ended on April 30, raising ₩9,462,863, 189.26% of its original goal of ₩5,000,000. [12] During the campaign, it was announced that OhBliss would record and promote the song as a four-member group, as Chunglyn took a break due to the worsening of a back pain she had been suffering from since her trainee days. [13] [14] On May 6, OhBliss shared a special clip of an acoustic version of "Bunny Bunny" to celebrate the 200th day since debut. [15]
After appearing without Chunglyn at various festivals and events, the group stopped performing in October, and, in January 2018, Makestar refunded all the participants in the crowdfunding due to the cancellation of the project.
