Hyperpotamus is a London-based vocal one man band from Madrid, Spain. He makes music with nothing but a few microphones and a loop pedal. After more than 10 years of playing in bands both as a drummer and a pianist, he had grown tired of the whole scenario: rehearsal, loading and unloading of drums across unwelcoming and surreal geographies, blood-sucking label talk, not so welcoming gigs, the cocky musical press... In October 2007, out of sheer frustration, he ditched it all, went solo and started to rehearse his new act in the tunnels of Madrid's underground metro stations, in front of unsuspecting audiences. It wasn't too long before a few passers-by offered him to open for a couple of local bands. This kicked off the Hyperpota-buzz in Madrid for most of 2008, and shortly after that, the rest of the country. Only six months after his first fling with busking, Hyperpotamus was playing in front of thousands of people all around Spain. In April 2009 he self-released his astounding debut album "Largo Bailon". Ever since, it's been non stop for Hyperpotamus: he's played on the banks of the Danube, under a staircase in Amsterdam, at a squathouse in Berlin, a macro-discotheque in Lisbon, a train station in London, a cruise ship in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, a flower shop in Paris, a Soviet People's Palace in Bratislava, a saloon in Texas, Ceacescu's People's Palace in Bucharest, a civic centre in Tijuana, under an organ pipe in Belfast, surrounded by skyscrapers in Los Angeles, at a retirement home in Bilbao, in a cave in Andalusia and in New York City's oldest bar... As well as more conventional festivals such as SXSW, NXNE, Primavera Sound, The Big Chill, Barcelona Acció Musical (BAM), Wilsonic, Bratislava Jazz Days... He has also made the soundtrack to a documentary on schizophrenia, the award winning “Paquita y Todo Lo Demás”, has covered Sonic Youth's “Bull in the Heather”, in front of Sonic Youth, is officially the Iberian Boss Loop Station Champion of 2010 and has opened for such diverse bands as Animal Collective, Scorpions, Two Gallants or Buck 65. Hyperpotamus makes use of his one man band status to spread the word in the most special and remote places on earth. Oblivious to trends or pose, he will continue to push things forward through his muscled music, which relies on nothing but heart, sweat and sheer joi de vivre. A spectacle not to be missed, Hyperpotamus will spare you the bore of revisiting the usual stage antics. In October he will release his follow-up, “Delta”, recorded at Fortress Studios (London) and released by El Molino Music, and will be touring Europe with his new songs.
