Hello.
I never know how to introduce myself in these things. I suppose I could say that I'm an aging hippy, a nerd, gamer, amateur historian and genealogist, a Mac fanatic, and lover of trashy and genre media and popular culture.
I am not a particularly prolific Wikipedian, but I do tend to contribute periodically to articles of interest to me. If you check my contributions, you'll see they are all over the place in terms of subject.
I maintain a large collection of web pages on things of interest to me, a couple of which parallel articles here. Many of my edits of Wikipedia articles relate to these topics one way or another.
Wikipedia topic | My Web Page | Description |
---|---|---|
Nerd | The Origin of the Nerd | The origin of the word "nerd" |
Julie d'Aubigny | The adventurous La Maupin | The life and times of La Maupin, aka Julie d'Aubigny, a bisexual 17th century opera star and duelist |
Pin-up | Cheesecake and the Art of the Pin-up | The history of pin-up art from the late 19th century to the present. |
As you can see, the topics are fairly diverse. Each started as a subject I knew a bit about but wanted to know more, and so I started a web page on the topic and after a decade or so of researching and receiving e-mail on the topic I begin to feel like I know something about it. I think that's one of the really great things about the Web. Wikipedia seems to have found a way to speed up the process.
