On April 27, 2007 the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced a partnership with the SPLC in the FBI's Civil Rights-Era Cold Case Initiative. The purpose of this initiative was to investigate and prosecute the many murders committed response to the Civil Rights movement which were not properly investigated or misidentified.
