Siraung (once spelt as serawong) is a traditional Bruneian hat. It is a product of a traditional weaving culture in the country which uses materials obtained from the forest such as rattan, bamboo and tree leaves. There are two types of siraung: siraung laki ("male siraung") is the same as the Asian conical hat, whereas siraung bini ("female siraung") is flat, wide and dome-shaped. The latter was once worn by padian, the boat sellers of the floating market which was once prevalent in the Bruneian 'water village' Kampong Ayer for centuries but no longer exist today.
