Gombby's Green Island ( Portuguese: Gombby - A História de um Padeiro [1], or simply Gombby) is a Portuguese animated children's series created by Paulo Matias Maria and produced by the production company Big Storm Studios. The series, along with its music clips from 2008 to 2009 which serve as precursors, were produced using Autodesk 3ds Max 3D software. [2] Broadcasting rights to the series are permanently no longer sold and the series can only be partially watched nowadays, as the aforementioned production company and its official website have both shut down. However, some episodes have been archived.
The series takes place in a fictional island named "Green Island", where a 6-year-old [3] baker, Gombby, and all of his friends live in. The enigmas of science, healthy eating, physical exercise and respect for the environment are some of the ingredients in Gombby's stories, who is always willing to learn and live new adventures with Celeste, Strawy, Professor, Gadget Man, and other friends that live in the island.

Gombby's Green Island has been broadcast on TV in many countries around the world and in many different languages, including Portuguese, English, Spanish, Arabic, Italian, Hungarian, Albanian, Polish, and Czech.
In Spain, the series was formerly broadcast on Clan, in Spanish.
In the United Kingdom, an English language dub was produced for the series by Flix Facilities Limited, however, it wasn't broadcast on British television for unknown reasons, but was rather instead released on YouTube and on official Gombby apps, including one titled "Gombby Channel". In Italy, the series was broadcast on JimJam from 2012 to 2016, going by the local name of L'isola di Gombby. It was also broadcast on that television channel in different countries, such as Hungary, Poland, Romania, Portugal, and Czechia.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was formerly broadcast on BHT1 in the Bosnian language, going by the localized name of Gombijev Zeleni Otok. In Albania and Kosovo, it was formerly broadcast on Çufo, using the Gombi name as localization.
In Ukraine, it was broadcast in Ukrainian by Pixel TV, going by the localized name of Зелений острів Гомбі. It was also broadcast in Kazakhstan on the Balapan channel, in the Kazakh language, going by the name of Гомбби. However, unlike all the other dubs, the Kazakh and Ukrainian dubbings of the series both had a very low number of native audiences.
In 2008, the Gombby character was created as the inspiration of a dream by a group of Portuguese people. The character itself was part of an album of Portuguese language children's music featuring all the Gombby characters, whose name was "As Músicas do Gombby" (Gombby's Songs). All of these music clips were always aired on RTP and Canal Panda, including a lullaby featuring Sleepy flying over Gombby's village on his pillow - after which scene Gombby, who was reading his book the entire time, would get tired - and kindly say "Good night, see you tomorrow!" in Portuguese to the viewer. Nevertheless, these music videos could potentially, and possibly be, pilot "episodes" of the series.
One year after these apparent precursors to Gombby's Green Island, another lullaby was composed. However, the lighting and animation was different from the original; a new type of animation which would later be used in the TV series for the rest of it. The new version of the lullaby started with Gombby going back to his house on his Eco-Bike and getting ready for bed - as he is reading his book, the occurrences within it transition into an animated state - which ends with Gombby getting tired and falling asleep. The same phrase as in the first Gombby lullaby is heard, albeit spoken by an adult male. This is the first song of the TV series, judging by the new looks of the animation. Therefore, the TV series was created in 2010, years after the new version of Gombby's lullaby.
All the music from the Gombby's Songs album was being aired in Portugal from 2008 to 2010 on two television channels, Canal Panda and RTP. These music videos were very successful in audiences and merchandising. At that time, there weren't tablets, smartphones and the Internet for Portuguese people back then was still thoroughly (but not completely) advanced.
In 2009, once the new lullaby song from Gombby's Green Island was composed, the same results happened; being broadcast on both channels and being very successful. However, it is unsure it it was sold in merchandising.
In 2010, one year after the newest lullaby song, another song was composed. However, it was not a lullaby song, but rather a song that taught children to not be scared of their own fears and to deal with them. [4] This song, was also successful in audiences and merchandising. It was so successful to the point that it was even staged on Christmas 2010, with the footage being aired on TVI.
