James Caw (26 March 1813 - 30 December 1891) was a Scottish painter.

Life

His father was Samuel Caw (27 September 1777 - 6 June 1854) from Perth, Scotland. [1]

His mother was Elizabeth Playfair (born 18 April 1785). [2] Samuel and Elizabeth were married on 14 January 1810.

He was born on 26 March 1813 in Glasgow. [3]

He married Eliza Simpson (c. 1822 - 19 July 1894).

Art

In 1838 he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy his work: Farm Kitchen In Arran. [4]

In 1884 he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy his work: Nellie, Daughter Of The Rev. John Morgan, Viewforth Free Church, Edinburgh. [5]

Death

He died at Harkhall Cottage, Rothesay on 30 December 1891. [6] The death certificate states he died of senile decay.

He is buried in Rothesay Cemetery on the Isle of Bute. [7]
