Short Autobiography

I am Vincer V. Quibral, of Brgy. Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte. I was born to Gloriosa and Rolando at Rizal St., Brgy. Pinya, Labo, Camarines Norte on September 17, 1977. I am the youngest among 5 kids. At that time, my Dad was a tenant to a 40-hectare land at Brgy. Dalas, near the convergence of Labo and Busig-on river. After more than ten years of tenancy, we migrated to Tulay na Lupa because the landowner sold the land. My parents subsequently bought a coconut farm on Abasig, Mt. Labo, which can be reached by a 4-km uphill walk from the nearest village of Tulay na Lupa.

My first school was Tulay na Lupa Elementary School, and consistently Mathematician of the class since 2nd grade. I loved geography the most, though. After class every Friday, the kids had to hike to our coconut farm and help my parents with farm chores. Being the youngest, I had the lightest assignment, and it was the kitchen and household tasks. During those times, one of the kids had to stop going to school for a year and assisted my parents on the farm. It was my turn at the age of 11, which was the biggest turning point in my life. When I went back to school a year later, a burning passion to excel in my studies was born in me. From nobody, I started climbing the honor roll, and eventually led me to graduate in high school on top of my class. In 1996, I was admitted for the degree of BS Computer Science at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños. It was not easy student life due to financial constraints, but it was not as exciting as my childhood.

After college graduation, I had some odd jobs as programmer and marketer. In 2003, I was hired as a Computer Science Instructor at La Consolacion College of Daet, Camarines Norte. While teaching, I had seen the need for improvement of educational system in my province which led me to take a Master of Science degree from University of the Philippines, Los Baños. I returned to teaching at the beginning of 2006-2007 school year, unfortunately, La Consolacion College of Daet made harsh and inhumane announcement last February 19, exactly 1 month before graduation day that BS Computer Science, BS Commerce and BA Secondary and Elementary Education will cease to exist in the institution.

Right now, I am still contemplating what my next job would be.... I hope on my next update, it will be a good one.

My Hobbies

  • Gardening - We have collections of native orchids, ferns, hoyas, and other beautiful Philippine floras
  • Novels - I've read most Paulo Coehlo's novel. and all Michael Crichton's, but I hated his State of Fear work. Earth's children series is a very nice work of mind.
  • Movies - Madagascar is the best! I love Moulin Rouge.
  • Internet - NBA.com
